Check to see if there is an Urban and Rural Development agency within your county, they help financially with rent for senior citizens,disabled people. I believe they go by your income. Hate to say it but good luck trying to get any help from the government. I tried calling the Intergovernmental Grants dept(St Clai County Community Agency for assistance within my state and the phone is disconnected since there have been cut backs.

Check to see if there a Bankruptcy Center in your state. I have the same problem(low income)and located a center within my area in which the office accepts monthly payments till it's paid off, then they will file the bankruptcy for me.
