We are not sure of your case or situation. As each case is different. While lawyers can be expensive, there are some free programs out there. Both pro-bono and for low income or older families. Find how to get free bankruptcy advice.

Maybe the best thing to do is content your property taxes. As it is VERY rare to get financial help. The appeal process is kind of straight forward, but we have tips and suggestions, including examples of property tax appeal letters.

If you need to fix a chimney, for heating purposes and are low income, maybe the government or a local non-profit can help. But if you just want it fixed (for non-heating needs) it may be harder. In either case, find free government home repair grants.

If you are on section 8, your income is probably low enough to use a free furniture bank. Or get household furnishings from a charity or free goods from a thrift store. We have tons of options listed, and find free furniture banks near you.
