The Salvation Army has partnered with Amazon.com to make it easier for families, individuals, or businesses to donate to the charity. This is part of the retailers “charity list program”. A “store” has been created on the Amazon website in which people can buy items for children of low income households, give gift cards, and more. The ecommerce company will give the items to kids across the nation.
Not only is the state of Michigan cutting back on the number of people enrolled into the Family Independence Program, or welfare, but the average monthly payment is now $352 per government records. While this is not much money, but it can make a big difference in the lives of someone living in poverty if they learn how to budget properly.
While the housing market is still very expensive for most families, the number of homeless individuals continues to decrease. Even though low income families are struggling to keep up with paying their rent or mortgage, as the result of HUD funding there has been an over 20% reduction in the number of people that are homeless on an given night at the start of 2016.
