The Mega-Millions Jackpot for tonight is approaching one billion dollars. This reminded me of the fact that so many winners of the lottery go broke in a matter of years, and according to the National Endowment for Financial Education as many as 70% of lotto winners end up blowing all of their winnings. Another agency, the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, supports this conclusion, though their data shows about 1/3 file bankruptcy and just over 50% go broke in a matter of years.

Working from home is the ultimate goal for many people in today’s workforce. As we have been writing about for over a year, the job market is on hire, which gives people more flexibility not to mention jobs out there. A side effect of the hot market is that there are tons of work from home jobs out there, both full time and contractor based. They the contractor/part time opportunities can give employees tons of flexibility.
The Advocates for Children of New York, which is a non-profit that covers the greater New York City region, has just reported that about 10% of the students in public schools do not have a permanent home. This means they could be living in a shelter, transitional housing unit, with family or friends, or really do not have a place of their own.
