Re: I have a bond ladder and the terms are below

True, you can always get the principal back from a bond (that is a government bond) as the Treasury guarantees it. But there is more risk using a Bond Ladder of corporate debt - as there are no promises to getting repair from a company. I have a bond ladder made out of I-Bonds that does not suffer f...

Re: I have applied but can't get a loan

Taking a loan to pay the bills may not be the best option. As it may just make your situation worse? Did you talk to a professional? We do not see a non-profit credit counseling agency in your region, but you should try the United Way Of Dimmit County. As this office also serves residents in your to...

Re: Pension and 401K needed too

Each pension plan is different. The devil is in the details. Sometimes public is better than private. It all depends on matching grants, payments, and other details.

I'll take my private union pension plan ANY day over a public sector one or a 401K.

Re: Worked full time and lived within a budget

For those that do not know (Parmealya?) the federal government is running a trillion dollar ANNUAL budget deficit. The TOTAL national debt is over 23 trillion dollars. Benefits, like social security, Medicaid, Mediare, etc. make up 75% of the annual government spending. There is no way for this to c...

Re: What stock ETF advice do you suggest?

Broad Index meaning S&P 500? Or a total index fund, even including Russell? Yes, if you have limited assets, paying for professional advice is a bad mistake. It is possible to learn financial literacy on your own, and as part of that learn about investing in ETFs, stocks, and other investments. As I...

Re: My financial advice which I learned for students

Thanks for the financial advice for students! Since so few states offer financial literacy, any advice they are provided is better than nothing. At least make them start to think about money, saving, retirement, etc. Hi, my name is Janice and i have some information to share. Most new college gradua...

Re: Switch to private retirement

How do you support that statement Violet? As women get paid less than men as due minorities. This means, since they are discriminated against/sexism, in the workplace, their income is lower so is the amount of money they contribute to Social Security as well as other retirement plans. So how can wom...

Re: Pension and 401K needed too

Is there a reason that you may not want a 401K too, the answer is yes. -If you and your family or wife are in debt outside a mortgage, then look at that interest rate of that debt. If it is high, like a credit card, then don't invest in a 401k, but instead work to become debt free. As if you are pay...

Re: Worked full time and lived within a budget

Hi Brianna Yes, living on $158 month is not enough to live on. No budget can account for that. If your partner is not paying court ordered child support, then appeal it/sue him, etc. While that can be costly, there is free legal aid. The main number to call for referrals is 202-295-1500, and that is...
