York County South Carolina region Salvation Army assistance programs.

Assistance programs administered by the Salvation Army can help low income families in the northern region of South Carolina, including the York and Lancaster County region. A number of resources are administered, including food, rental and utility assistance, seasonal programs and case management. Get information on how you can provide for your basic needs and locate details on assistance programs in South Carolina.

Many families are struggling to feed themselves and their children. The food assistance offered by the Salvation Army from pantries can assist clients during hard times. The use of the regional pantries can help clients prepare nutritious meals in their homes, obtain groceries and feed their families. Social services helps hundreds of people from the York County and surrounding regions per year. Disabled persons and senior citizens are eligible for food and groceries every two weeks.

Seniors can get assistance from resources, including meals and the occasional volunteer Transportation Program. It was created in an effort to help the elderly, homebound and senior citizens get to their destination. When it operates, it may offer free (or low cost) round trip transportation services to doctor appointments, senior centers, congregate meal sites, health care facilities, and shopping. Many volunteers and staff will also offer homebound meal and grocery deliveries to both disabled and senior citizens that are homebound.

Support services and case management is available, often in combination with other community action agencies. They take part in both corporate and private partnerships in South Carolina. A main task is to help clients solve their unique needs. This can include helping them move towards self-sufficiency and can instill in them a sense of determination. Some of what may be offered includes information on local job training and employment programs. Or learn about federal government resources such as WIA. Homeless prevention and rent assistance may also be coordinated.

Financial resources from the Salvation Army can assist the working poor, low-income families, disabled individuals and senior citizens in counties such as York and Cherokee. It can assist them with finding the help they need. Programs can support clients with overcoming the challenge of paying their home energy or cooling bills or other goods such as prescriptions, health care, and even just food. It is fully understood that resources are limited so this guidance may help.

During the hot and humid summers in South Carolina free fans may be passed out to the elderly or those with a medical condition. The Summer Fan Program operates in Lancaster and York County. The objective of the program is to prevent the heat-related deaths that the less fortunate, elderly and people at risk experienced in past years. In the past, many elderly citizens or maybe even young children die during the summer months due to extreme heat-related illnesses. So the Salvation Army tries to solve this by offering fans, cooling bill help, and even shelters to get out of the heat.

The Angel Tree Program offers assistance for families with children ages 0-14 years of age. They can receive free gifts, clothing, and other holiday assistance. There is also an Angel Tree for senior citizens age 62 and older in Oklahoma.

Several shelters and housing units operate in the region.

The Family and Women’s Lodge is offered for battered women and displaced families in the northern part of the state. It can give them a place to call home for a short period of time during a crisis. It provides people a place for safety and gives them time to get back on their feet.

Salvation Army Men’s Lodge will provide men from the region a clean, warm, safe place to stay. Shelter and transitional housing needs to be one of the first things that is addressed. The Salvation Army offers this in an effort to assist the less fortunate members of society. It can offer clients a hand up during a difficult period.

The main locations to call for assistance include 119 S Charlotte Ave, Rock Hill, South Carolina 29730 (dial (803) 324-5141) as well as the Salvation Army center at 601 Colonial Ave in Gaffney. Phone (864) 489-2530.
