While not really providing direct financial assistance and cash, the Genesee Valley Rural Preservation Council, Inc. is a non-profit that works with renters and homeowners to improve living conditions, housing opportunities, and help prevent evictions. Counselors may be able to assist both renters and owners through providing information on rent assistance, including the NY Section 8 housing program, provision of affordable housing, offering access to legal advice, technical assistance and grants for the repair of owner occupied single family homes. They also offer access to mortgage and foreclosure prevention programs, as well as help for first time buyers purchase a home. (585) 658-4860
Emergency Shelter Payments of Perry New York (Phone (585) 237-2600) may be able to give assistance in the form of one month's rent or mortgage payment on behalf of a renter.
