Financial assistance, housing help, and other programs

One of the places that individuals in need of help should turn to is the Weld County Catholic Charities.

The non-profit charity organization offers several different services and assistance programs. The programs they offer in Weld County include those mentioned below. In addition to this list, they also use so called Empty Stocking Funds that are part of the Emergency Assistance Program to help families in need with rental and mortgage arrears, utilities and heating bills. The agency is headquartered in Greeley and serves residents across the county.

  • Family Services- This service promotes the Safe and Stable Family Program and the Champions Program is also part of this option.
     
  • Financial and Emergency Assistance - Catholic Charities helped almost 900 households in Emergency Assistance, so they received money for rent, energy bills, and other expenses.
     
  • Guadalupe Shelter - This service provided overnight emergency shelter to over 500 families at their  Guadalupe Shelter. In addition, almost 15,000 free meals were provided to individuals.

 

 

  • Senior Services - Some of the programs offered for seniors include Elderly Outreach; and Rural & Hispanic Senior Outreach. Seniors get support and access to many resources.

While Weld County does not have an official community action agency, the Weld County Department of Human Services is the government agency that serves in this capacity. Financial assistance programs as well as cash grants will be made available to help families and individuals that are struggling with paying their bills and that qualify for help. Programs offered to qualified individuals include financial assistance in the form of monetary payments, help with childcare expenses and costs, money to pay grocery bills, funds for energy bills, and medical care. Stepping Stones is another option. The organization is a non-profit organization that helps families and individuals who live in the Windsor/ Severance school district. The non-profit agency assists families that are having difficulty paying rent, heating, water and utility bills. In addition, Stepping Stones offers temporary financial assistance for families that have received an eviction notice or utility shut-off notice / disconnection. Faith Community Service Fund of Greeley Colorado offers low income and other individuals with emergency financial assistance for paying their rent, heating and utilities. This assistance program will serve Dacono, Greeley, Evans, Ault, Nunn, Pierce area residents only. Call 970-353-4300

 

 

 

LaSalle Ministry Alliance only serves people in that town. The program will provide help to qualifying low to moderate income applicants for utilities, rent and other miscellaneous needs. Call (970) 388-2445.

Almost Home, Inc. may be able to offer aid on a one time basis only, and can offer utility bill and heating assistance for paying electricity and gas bills to low to moderate income families within Hudson, Ft. Lupton, Keenesburg, Frederick, Lochbuie and Wattenberg who are facing loss of utility service or heating. Call (303) 659-6199.

The Our Center Basic Needs Programs, phone (303) 772-5529, assists low-income individuals and families who are currently residing in Dacono, Longmont, Frederick, Firestone, and the Mead Colorado geographic area. Get access to free food, clothing, rent assistance, shelter, local transportation, emergency medical, rent, utilities and heating help, budget counseling, and debt help.

Get food assistance

The Weld Food Bank offers a few different ways for people to get nutritious food. They include emergency food assistance, which is the short-term nutritional assistance program that is available to individuals and families who are facing a crisis situation, and each box can find a family for a few days. They also provide additional free food to school aged children through the backpack program. They can be reached at 970-356-2199.

First Assembly of God, located in Greeley Colorado (phone (970) 352-2600) may be able to provide small boxes of non perishable food and groceries to needy people in the community.

Lighthouse Mission offers emergency food boxes, non-financial aid and clothing available. Call 970-373-8133.

Legal services

Weld County Legal Services (phone number (970) 351-7300) provides residents with free legal aid. The non-profit law firm is the pro bono legal services organization that provides Weld County and Greeley Colorado residents access to free legal programs. The organization is funded and sponsored by the Weld County Bar Association. The non-profit firm provides lawyer referral services and legal advice sessions (free of charge) with local, highly trained attorneys on issues including foreclosures, divorce and children, grandparents raising grandchildren, consumer debt issues, landlord-tenant matters, and other civil disputes. This Weld county based organization provides pro bono attorneys – and free legal advice – to poor persons and the elderly.
