Webb County Catholic Social Services assistance programs.

Catholic Social Services (CSSL) of Webb County can help less fortunate families in Laredo and nearby towns. The charity organization will try to use a combination of their own resources as well as referrals to other agencies (such as the General Fund Welfare Assistance Program in Laredo Texas) in an effort to help low income families. Examples of their programs are below.

  • Basic needs – This can include a free box of food, applications to SNAP food stamps, baby formula, and other hunger prevention services.
  • Emergency financial help – In a small, limited number of instances, Catholic Social Services may have money to help with expenses ranging from water bills to rent or heating costs.
  • Self-sufficiency – If someone needs items, such as clothing or a gas voucher for a job interview, the charity will try to arrange this.
  • Job placement, referrals to medical clinics, low cost goods from a thrift store, and much more is provided.

The agency will do what it can to help. Many families will not qualify, or funds will run out. But if Catholic Social Services can't assist, then they will try to link the applicant to another local program.

Locate food and basic needs

Each Thanksgiving holiday, Catholic Social Services provides free traditional Thanksgiving meals for hundreds of low-income families, seniors, and children who otherwise may not be able to celebrate the holiday. The program stands out from other similar services in Webb County because the non-profit wants people to share this meal in their own home, with your own family traditions, and this is important for families. Therefore, as donations allow, they will supply each family with a Thanksgiving basket that includes meat, Turkey, and all of the traditional fixings.

The team at the faith based non-profit agency believe that no one should go to bed hungry. So food and applications to public aid is offered by Catholic Social Services. As with all of their services, certain eligibility requirements must be satisfied as follows.

-Prospective clients to a welfare resource must provide photo identification and Social Security cards for all family members.
-They need to reside in Webb County.
-Also, low to moderate income families can receive free groceries from the CSSL pantry once every 30 days, with an exception made for hardships.

Accordingly, Catholic Social Services provides free food and other nutritional nutritional services to needy families in the region. In addition to the pantry that features dry and canned goods, baby formula, meats and fresh fruits, as well as fresh vegetables, there is also assistance to meet special dietary needs of individuals with chronic health issues. So the disabled or elderly in Webb County may be given additional help.

Emergency financial support services from Catholic Social Services

When it comes to energy bills, food, or rent, CSSL can provide short-term financial assistance. The program's from the agency are combined with ongoing support and guidance, as well as monthly follow-up services from staff members. This is given as participants work toward regaining their stability and self-sufficiency.

Grants are used by the agency to offer payment of rent, mortgage, grocery bills, or utilities on behalf of households dealing with a temporary, unexpected setbacks. They also can provide a client a ride to a medical appointment in Laredo, and help them pay for prescription medications. Any type of cash benefits are contingent upon access to funding by Catholic Social Services and the client's circumstances, as there will not be money for families living in long term poverty that have not done what they need to help themselves.

CSSL also runs the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). This is only for disaster. When impacted, residents of Webb County can be placed into a shelter or given a hot meal. In some cases, more drastic help may be given, such as money to pay the rent on a hotel or maybe a voucher. FEMA works with Social Services on this.
