Consumer Credit Counseling Services - Helps all people regardless of their income and ability to pay for its services. Among other services, they offer advise individuals on debt reduction, budgeting, foreclosure prevention, credit card help, money management, before and after purchasing of housing, and bankruptcy filings. LaGrange Personal Aid Association, Inc. - This non profit runs many assistance programs, including one that supports families through rental, mortgage and utility payments when the major income earner of the household is ill or hospitalized and is out of work under a doctor’s care.
In addition, other services and resources include utility bill assistance which is provided through the Operation Round-Up Program and SHARE. Other programs include Medical or Emergency Transportation Assistance, Fans and Air Conditioners for Seniors, School Supplies, Food Safety and Prescription Assistance Program Information, Milk, Juice and Ensure for the Elderly and Medically Needy, Medical Supply Purchases, Senior Christmas Program, Information and Referral Services on federal government and Georgia assistance programs. The Salvation Army LaGrange Corps - You need to apply and will also be interviewed, but if found to be eligible you can get help if you are in a crisis situation. Both financial and non-financial assistance in the form of clothing, food, furniture, medical prescriptions, money for rent, and utility funds are provided. Call 706-845-0197.
Community Action for Improvement, Inc. is the local community action agency of Troup County and LaGrange Georgia. Numerous low income programs are run by the agency.
Community Services is a general aid type program, and help can be provided in obtaining Social Security, Public Assistance, Medicare, Health Care, TANF and Food Stamps, and Emergency Assistance for bills and rent. The site can also assist families in locating affordable housing in the Troup County area.
Another program is the government funded Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) which will help pay heating and cooling costs for gas, electricity, wood, coal or kerosene bills and expenses. One-time cash payments and grants will be made to help people get back on track with utility bills.
The agency also administers the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP), which provides rent and housing helps, funds for paying deposits, and assistance to help people keep in their home or apartments. The goal is to prevent evictions.
Low-Income Weatherization Assistance Program is a program that was designed to make homes more energy efficient, and it will assist low income families with the emphasis on the elderly and handicapped in the community.
