Texas free eye vision care and prescription glasses.

There are several charities to turn to for free or affordable eye care in the state of Texas. Many of them operate regionally and only service families in their community. Charities such as InFOCUS as well as local clinics try to prevent eye disease and insure that low income families have the glasses and vision tests they need.

The optometrists, as well as their staffs, help people from all backgrounds. There are vision tests for the working poor as well as immigrants. Many centers also provide services in Spanish and languages other than English. Assistance is available for senior citizens, children, and even pre-schoolers. In fact the free eye tests will even be more effective at helping children as if there is a problem discovered, the earlier the diagnoses the better.

The services are comprehensive. The staff at the centers, as well as the eye doctor will take the time to meet with the patient to understand their condition. They will go through a formal exam that will determine their needs as well as where they stand today. If it is found that there is a serious medical condition which may be impacting their vision, then referrals will be given to specialists at local Texas based hospitals.

When it comes to prescription glasses or contact lenses in Texas, these will usually be available at a discounted price. Only in rare instances will a patient be given free glasses. This will really depend on donations from the community as well as retailers such as LensCrafters or Wal-Mart. While charities such as InFOCUS want to provide free glasses to low income families, this can be difficult to do.

There will also tend to be discounted vision supplies available too. For contact lens wearers, they may find cleaning solutions available at a more affordable price. Or other goods that may be sold include eyeglass repair kits or cases. There may also be discounted prescription sunglasses for clients with a medical need. So the centers try to offer a wide array of comprehensive eye care items.

The clinics, as well as partners of InFOCUS, are located across Texas. With many families still lacking health insurance (or maybe their policy does not pay for eye care costs), there is always a tremendous need for eye care. Even if a location can't help, they will try to refer the individual to other options in their local community.

The primary charities to try are below. As noted, referrals may also be given to additional locations. In addition, many community clinics may also perform free, basic eye exams for the uninsured or families living in poverty. Some clinics may also have glasses and other equipment.
