Tampa Florida area families can get rental assistance from a number of charities, churches and government organizations. Find a list of places that provide emergency funds for paying rent, security deposits or other housing expenses. Qualifications will vary, but in general a tenant will need an eviction notice, be low income and be out of other options to get help with their rent or moving costs. St. Vincent de Paul Tampa City area
There are a couple of parishes. A
number of financial assistance programs are offered from the Hillsborough County SVDP. They include Housing Payment Assistance, which can include rent and energy bill help. Churches and other religious organizations are part of this charity organization. In some cases a low interest deferred loan will be issued for emergency rental assistance. There are also free furniture programs for low income renters who are moving into a home or apartment. Shelters and other short term support is available as well.

It provides services to residents, including immediate, one time rental assistance. Support is also offered for pregnant women and for children up to the age of one-year. There are multiple sites in Hillsborough County (outsiode of city limits). Local Catholic Churches provide money for rent, storage costs or other bills. A home visit is often needed. Some funds can also help with mobile home lot rent or other costs that may be involved from leasing a home or apartment.

Assists immigrants, migrant workers and farmworkers. Housing programs, including emergency rental or security deposits may be available. Other aid includes shelter, information on low income apartments, food, and job training. There is also pro bono help with civil issues, such as rental or landlord disputes. They operate Rapid Rehousing in Hillsborough County. Everything from free housing placement services to money for rent, security or utility deposits is offered. They also provide financial aid for application fees or moving costs and more.

Hillsborough County Health & Social Services Department - There are several centers. Get information on financial aid. There are low income programs such as section 8 vouchers, government benefits or rent subsidized housing, and more. They have sites in the region such as the Lee Davis Neighborhood Service Center, Plant City, and a site in West Tampa that may also be involved in some form of rent or low income housing program. Bay Area Legal Services - The non-profit law firm can coordinate free civil legal aid services. There are attorneys and volunteer lawyers that give housing support to low income families. There is assistance with housing issues, such as help to prevent an eviction, stability, housing discrimination, and foreclosure assistance. Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program, or HVRP, provides various employment, case management and housing services to those veterans behind on their rent and facing eviction as well as the homeless. Tampa Hillsborough Homeless Initiative and Eviction Prevention is an organization of various charities as well as non-profits. They use grants from the government to help with housing needs. A number of social services are offered, including referrals, shelter, and limited funds for rent help. Qualified low income seniors, families with children, the disabled will be first in line for any available funds. Section 8 housing choice vouchers
There are a couple different public housing authorities in Hillsborough County that take applications. These are income based vouchers that pay a portion of the rent for qualified low income households. The apartments, homes, and houses are affordable, income based.
