Tallahassee Catholic Charities emergency financial assistance.

Catholic Charities will do what it can to help low income families in the greater Tallahassee region, including Leon County and Pensacola. They have a few offices in the area, and administer emergency assistance, case management, guidance, and support to the less fortunate.

Emergency services and assistance may be provided to qualified people. A visit and application will be necessary. The agency has four regional offices, and the locations often provide the needy with the first contact clients have with Catholic Charities. The objective of the non-profit is to do their best to somehow help all who come seeking assistance. Programs are administered for families and individuals, seniors, and others who are striving for economic and personal self-reliance.

Catholic Charities in Tallahassee and Leon County Florida helps in emergencies. They provide assistance with basic needs as utilities, financial resources, free food, prescription medications, rent, and housing. Social workers and staff are aware of the various support programs and services provided within the charity and the region. They are also aware of other programs and resources that are offered in the greater Pensacola community at large. They have training on and are knowledgeable about researching new resources that can benefit those in need of emergency or crisis assistance.

All resources are very limited. So caseworkers and social workers will normally prioritize and assist potential clients according to their need and those who are most at risk. Priority for any financial assistance is given to families with children, individuals lacking immediate necessities are priorities. expectant mothers, and the homeless. In addition, the target population of their program are families in crisis who reside in the geographical area, including Ft. Walton Beach and the diocese of Pensacola/Tallahassee Florida.

Technically Catholic Charities does not have income eligibility restrictions, however they will focus on those who have lost income due to issues such as unemployment or a medical emergency. The organization will do their best to attempt to assist all applicants with the crisis situation they face. They can also provide referrals and financial counseling to other local non-profits and resources as appropriate.

Many families in Florida are facing multiple challenges. What case managers often find is that one problem may be presented to the Catholic Charity individuals, and it is generally financial in nature. However the staff member will give an interview and will do their best to understand and assess other possible needs and problems of the applicant. Appointments are also taken by the intake staff and referred to the appropriate community resource or caseworker.

 

 

 

Christmas programs - During the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, Catholic Charities becomes even more acutely aware of those in need of help, in particular children. During the holiday months it is often a time of increased community awareness of vulnerable individuals and families. While many charities and regional offices conduct a variety of Christmas and holiday giving toy and meal programs, Catholic Charities of Tallahassee’s Christmas Connection is the largest free gift giving program that operates anywhere in Northwest Florida. They also rely heavily on donations and contributions from people in the community.

A food pantry has been serving Okaloosa, Leon and parts of Santa Rosa and Walton Counties for a number of years. The regional food bank also relies on donations, and it is sustained by the Florida USDA, local donors, the bay Area Food bank and churches. It provides almost 20,000 pounds of food, groceries, and meals every month to the needy.

Job training is offered from the Health Professions Opportunity Grant (HPOG). This was authorized and funded by the federal government Affordable Care Act. The HPOG program provides education and job training to TANF recipients, those on welfare and other low-income individuals. Receive advice and support for obtaining jobs in occupations in the health care field that pay well and are expected to be in high demand and more than likely experience labor shortages.

Catholic Charity Immigration and Naturalization program provides assistance to Tallahassee residents throughout the immigration process. They can assist with family reunification applications, replacement of permanent residence cards, extensions of stay, work permits, inquiries for status of cases at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), naturalization certificates as well as at the American consulates abroad.

Their Pre-Screening takes place each Monday morning, unless it is a holiday, from 9 AM - 11 AM. In these difficult economic times, the working poor,  immigrant populations, and the homeless need help more than ever before.
