The non-profit Star of Hope Mission is a charity organization that is committed to assisting homeless women, men and children if applicable. The Houston based center provides transitional housing, programs that focus on life-management, shelter, employment, education and recovery from substance abuse if it is needed.
Hundreds of people use the resources on a daily basis. Some of the key assistance programs are the Women and Family Emergency Shelter, Men’s Development Center, a Transitional Living Home for Women and Families and the New Horizons program. All assistance available is comprehensive and can help address both short and long term needs. Social workers partner with clients to try to help them rise above poverty and set and reach meaningful gains. The Star of Hope Doris and Carloss Morris Men's Development Center (MDC) provides housing to hundreds of men each night. There are also emergency and residential programs available, such as food, free meals, personal hygiene goods and similar items. MDC can help qualified clients achieve success in the areas of literacy, substance abuse recovery, education, life skills, and employment. A year long Transitional Living Program is available for men. This will provide them with shelter, clothing, free food, Referrals to Social Services, job training, and other aid. When the time is right, get help in locating a permanent home in Harris County Texas.
The local Family and Women Emergency Shelter has been operating since the 1980s and usually helps hundreds of single women, families with children, victims of domestic violence and others. The Houston facility has a free medical clinic, pre-school area, a licensed day care, teen activity room, and a computer lab.
Other assistance arranged by the Star of Hope Mission for women is as follows. They can receive food, clothing and shelter. The clients can work with a social worker on Comprehensive Needs Assessment and they can develop an action plan for families and singles. The Randy and Kathy Tabor Transitional Living Center is located in Houston and is for Women and Families only. Several services are provided by this Star of Hope program. Qualified applicants will be able to participate in a 12 – 18 month recovery program. Participants need to be genuinely committed to their own recovery and achieving self-sufficiency.
This center will offer both emergency short term shelter and ensure clients enroll into longer term solutions. Clients will gain increased accountability, structure, and fiscal responsibility in their lives. Clients will learn basic living skills in a demanding and comprehensive one-year program.
The assistance provided by Randy and Kathy Tabor Transitional Living Center involves career development, ABE/GED classes, an onsite Childcare facility, and help for pregnant young adults or young mothers. Long Term Housing in Houston Texas can be obtained from the New Horizons program. This is a so called bridge for qualifying clients to assist them from going from transitional living to total self-sufficiency. It presents clients with a roadmap to permanent housing or apartments.
For those qualified clients that leave a Star of Hope shelter, they can be offered low income, subsidized housing for up to a three-year period. The client will need to pay a portion of the rent, and that contribution will increase over time.
The main goal of the transitional housing program is to provide clients with time while they gain stability, save money, and get on a career path. New Horizon offers an effective vehicle for helping individuals to improve their credit history and scores by paying their portion of the rent on time. It also will ensure clients gain ongoing support.
