Sedgewick and Johnson County transitional housing.

While there may be shelters and transitional housing programs located across Kansas, the majority of the units and programs operate in both Johnson and Sedgewick County. Resources can help the homeless and families that are on the verge of eviction. Thousands of struggling, working poor, and other residents receive help from the low income or even free housing programs every year.

Some of the leading organizations are below. Many non-profits, such as Salvation Army and Catholic Charities, have multiple sites across Kansas. If a location is not near you, call a center for referrals to other transitional housing programs that may be more convenient to you. If a location has a waiting list, ask to be placed onto it.

While some of the shelters may be available for free, the transitional housing programs in Kansas may require the resident to pay a portion of their income towards rent or other costs. Or if the individual is not working, find help in locating employment or enrolling into school. Other services available at a shelter or housing program can include free meals, clothing, applications for section 8 housing, and more.
