Sauk County assistance programs.

Financial and emergency assistance

Saint Vincent De Paul Society Of Sauk Prairie - Roxbury Resource Center is a charity that may be able to offer aid. The St. Vincent de Paul Society in Sauk County and Baraboo offers a variety of assistance programs to local residents. They help up to 10 people per day on average, and provide them with housing aid, gas vouchers, utility assistance, medical assistance and health care.

Each request and application to St. Vincent is evaluated on a case-by-case basis by a review committee. The organization’s requests for access to the food pantry, the number of visits and rental assistance paid out are up fairly significantly from last year. Limited discretionary funds may be offered to individuals and families who need help to meet emergency needs.

While funding is limited, and financial assistance paid out is reserved for low income individuals and families who are faced with a crisis that was not caused by them, others can apply. Funds are offered for those who need help with rent, mortgage payments, campground or motel fees for homeless individuals, mobile home lot fees, or utility bills. Some other educational and non-emergency fees may also be paid for by Saint Vincent. This includes money for an academic record and education related fees, school supplies, gas vouchers, summer camp scholarship, limited prescription expense assistance, and even bus/train tickets for individuals who are stranded in the area.

There are three different locations in the county. They are 1906 North St, Prairie du Sac, WI 53578. Call this center at (608) 644-0504. Another Saint Vincent is at 16 E Main St, Reedsburg, Wisconsin 53959. Call (608) 524-7714. The last center is at 100 S Blvd, Baraboo, WI 53913. Telephone (608) 356-4649.

Central Wisconsin Community Action County - Additional housing assistance is provided by the non-profit. For example, they run the homelessness prevention program. The organization is assisting almost 20 families per week now. This not for profit agency provides financial assistance to people facing eviction and currently homeless families. Any type of grants and government funds are used for paying rent. While the help is short term in nature, the good news for this group is that they have received an additional $250,000 from the federal government to increase the size of their program.

Other resources offered by Central Wisconsin Community Action are as follows. The agency provides one-time crisis assistance to households having trouble making mortgage or rent payments. Any applications submitted by clients are reviewed and approved based on a number of criteria, including the ability to positively resolve the crisis, funding availability, and other factors can be considered.

A Supportive Housing Program is also offered by the community action agency for homeless families or individuals funded by a HUD Continuum of Care Grant. The three primary goals of the housing/homeless prevention program are to help participants obtain and remain in permanent housing; help people achieve greater self-determination, and to also increase participants skills and/or income.

Clients will be assigned to a case manager from Community Action. This individual will work with program participants for up to 2 years. They will try to connect them with self-sufficiency and emergency aid. Get access to housing, employment, childcare, government benefits such as Food Stamps or SSI, W-2, education/job skills training, and counseling for mental health or AODA issues, etc. The non-profit will also contract with individual landlord's on behalf of the clients. The agency will try to provide for employment (work clothing, suits, tools, etc.), educational needs (GED/HSED, ESL classes, etc.), child care expenses, transportation (gas or taxi vouchers), household goods, and medical/dental/physical exams/prescriptions. Address is 522 South Blvd, Baraboo, WI 53913, call (608) 355-3140, or click more information.

Sauk County Salvation Army Service Extension - The organization may assist with vouchers for miscellaneous financial assistance and provides help based on emergency need. Referrals are offered as well if they do not have funds. Other financial assistance is offered for low-income individuals and working poor families who need help paying rent. Any assistance offered is on a case-by-case basis for crisis situations, and an application process is in place. Other resources include food, clothing, and Christmas assistance. (608) 355-3140
