The non-profit organization will refer people to all resources available to them, whether direct financial assistance or referrals to local churches or even public benefits. Assistance for basic needs ranging from shelter to food and medications may be coordinated across Santa Clara County and San Jose.

When seeking help, the assistance is available from all of the local non-profits as a hand up to the less fortunate. The client will need proof of income and hardship, and be taking action on improving their living conditions. This will mean addressing any underemployment, increasing educational levels, and participating in other case management services.

The use of these various resources, whether a food pantry or government benefit, means that a struggling family now has more ability to get the nutritious and healthy groceries or meals that they need to feed their loved ones. This could also mean that a senior does not have to choose between spending their fixed income on food or a medication, so these tools go a long way to stopping hunger in the region.

So to this end, some examples of services available across Santa Clara County include public assistance Application Assistance, Clothing Banks, Fair Housing Advocacy, Budget Counseling, CalWorks, and Landlord/Tenant Advocacy.

There are many other services also offered, and staff from the referral center can direct applicants to them. All of them are keenly focused on helping the less fortunate, seniors, and others. Utility bill assistance offers a combination of government grants and case management to customers who have become payment-troubled. Any type of support is for households that are faced with a disconnection due to unexpected emergency situations.

Santa Clara low income case managers from Helpline can refer struggling tenants, or the homeless, to the Continuum of Care (CoC). This is a program that is dedicated to preventing homeless in the community. Many different agencies, ranging from churches, elected officials, health care providers to government offices, collaborate and partner on this.

These groups work together to address the emergency as well as ongoing supportive needs of the homeless and at-risk population. While short term monetary assistance may be offered, the true goal is to help people gain permanent self-sufficiency.

The types of assistance provided, if anything, will be directly dependent on the needs and ability of the applicant to gain self-sufficiency. There may be funds for rent, security deposits, utility bills, or lease origination fees. All services from Santa Clara referral services or its partners in the CoC are directed at eliminating barriers to overcoming and exiting homelessness.

Vouchers or discounts are available as form of prescription drug assistance. Residents of San Jose California and surrounding towns can receive savings on medications from services such as the NACO discount card. Or in some cases, Santa Clara low income referral services may issue vouchers to eligible customers for use at participating pharmacies.

Employment Support assists eligible customers with expenses such as daycare cost, transportation and work supplies. Or there may be clothes from some local thrift centers or clothing banks. The intent is to enable people to find a job or maintain employment.
