Find help from San Pedro Love Inc. assistance programs.

The national, non-profit organization known as Love has partnered with churches and faith based groups in San Pedro, southern California and in the Los Angeles region. The organization mostly relies on volunteers as well as the generosity of the community. However, as resources allow, families, children, and the elderly may be able to receive support.

The programs administered are not intended to solve an immediate crisis situation. However, Love Inc. may be able to provide referrals to other non-profits in Los Angeles County or to state or federal government programs. For example, if you are facing eviction, the hotline they operate may know of places to turn to for emergency funds or maybe a shelter, post eviction.

Examples of the services which may be provided by Love Inc. are below. A strict application process is in place, and any aid provided is intended as short term relief. They will not just offer people charity care, or a so called hand out. So support comes with conditions.

The homebound may qualify for shopping trips or a ride to a store or doctor appointment. There may also be emergency food or meal delivery services, including around Christmas or Thanksgiving. Volunteers from the San Pedro area offer this service.

Auto and home repairs may be coordinated by churches. Some mechanics from the community may volunteer their time to help fix a car, if it is needed for work reasons. Transportation may also include vouchers from the Gas Ministry or a ride to a job interview.

Seniors or the disabled may receive yard work, carpentry, or plumbing. Love will not provide the supplies, but the staff may come from churches to undertake this work. Painting and electrical work may be done too.

As noted, the financial aid from Love is very limited, if there is any at all. In most cases, the clearinghouse will offer referrals for this. However, very rarely a church may have some cash assistance to pay for a portion of rent or say an energy bill. Love will also try to arrange low income housing for single mothers, including those that are homeless.

Educational services include teachers or volunteers tutoring children and adults. There may also be referrals to job training programs in California. These types of services are key to self-sufficiency.

Basic goods, such as clothing may be offered. This can include free baby supplies, diapers, cribs, or formula. There is also the Adopt-A-Family program, which offers free gifts and toys to children at Christmas. Other Love Inc. services include Back-To-School backpack drive, Clothing Ministries which operate Dress for Success and Kidz Closet, and hygiene items for all ages from their Care bags. Hundreds of children often benefit from these programs every year.

Counseling is coordinated by Love Inc. in San Pedro. Volunteers help with credit and budget counseling, nutritional advice, and more general items too.

For any programs they don't offer, referrals are also made to community resources or agencies. It can be for free emergency food, shelter, utility bills, rental assistance, clothing and jobs. This is more of their emergency program for a crisis.

The bottom line is that Love Inc. provides volunteers and donations that are organized by local churches in San Pedro. Love connects these people with the opportunity to serve others in their community. They work with church ministries, community agencies, and other groups.

Support is offered regardless of age, race, or religion. By connecting people, including low income families, with the right resources for their situation and circumstance, Love can sometimes offer dozens of different programs and services each and every year. They not just help with short term needs, but in many cases Love Inc. is able to transform lives for the better. The helpline can be reached at 1-310-831-5683.
