Organizations across San Francisco County provide help to the less fortunate during the holiday. Some of the agencies are very targeted in who they assist, such as domestic violence survivors. Others are more wide ranging and children from low income households could get a free gift, and families may be provided a hot meal.
Due to the result of volunteers and donations from the community, there are normally tens of thousands of children that are given a toy or piece of clothing. Senior citizens and the homebound in the city are often given a hot meal at Christmas or even Thanksgiving. Another highly sought after program are the Christmas toy giveaways drives for children.
Whether it is an adopt a family service, or just some companionship, the bottom line is that the San Francisco County based charities go a long way to meeting the demand during this time of the year.
