How to Save Money

Salvation Army assistance programs Rutherford County NC.

The primary program from the Rutherford County Salvation Army is their thrift store. This sells items to the public, and everything will be competitively priced. However the goods will be gently used for the most part, with the rare possibility of new items for sale. A wide variety of supplies will be sold.

In addition, on occasion there may be referrals to financial aid or direct financial support given. But this will not be common. The social workers at the Forest City Salvation Army (which is in effect a Christian faith based church) do their best to help the working poor, families that are struggling, and others in the community. When there are funds available the Family Service Department may be able to assist with the following, but this will only be for a crisis when the applicant is out of all other resources.

Some funds may help with paying housing type expenses, which may include expenses such as back rent or money for a utility bill if the applicant is threatened with a disconnection. Another reason for emergency financial help will be for life saving medications or maybe a critical job related expenses, including gasoline.

The Salvation army in Forest City North Carolina also tries to feed the hungry. Whether it is a child, senior who needs a hot meal delivered to them, or entire family food pantries (including a small one at the Salvation Army) can often meet that need. This too is an emergency only service.

When applying for any financial aid, the applicant needs to be low income; have the ability to start paying their own bills on time; be local to Rutherford County North Carolina; and also be out of all other options. The Salvation Army center will only assist (when they can) as a last resort.

The other option is the thrift store. This is in effect a gently used – recycled type center. It sells items to the entire public, whether they live in Rutherford County, a nearby town, or even some other state. Everything sold is available to anyone who wants to shop there.

Any money raised from the Forest City Salvation Army thrift store is used by the charity. It helps keep the location open (so it pays the bills, rent, and other costs) and any surplus money is used to pay for their charitable services. So thrift store money is used to pay for housing for the low income, it allows free food to be given out and more. There are also other sources of free food in North Carolina.

The thrift, or family store, has a wide variety of items for sale. There is furniture, beds, toys, household supplies, and more. Teenagers often shop at the location for vintage or collectible items, and low to moderate income parents can save a significant amount of money by shopping there.

Similar to the thrift store will be the Rutherford County Salvation Army seasonal assistance programs. If someone from the community donates toys, books, school supplies, games or clothing, all of this can be used for the seasonal programs. The main ones include Angel Tree, which gives free Christmas toys, gifts, and presents. The other main one is the annual back to school shopping programs, which has shoes, boots, winter coats, and clothing among other items.
