Rock Island County Salvation Army social services.

Operating in partnership with other non-profits, the Rock Island County Salvation Army provides material as well as financial help to low income families. The location is part of the greater Quad Cities network. But no matter the need or struggle faced by the applicant, they may be able to learn about heating bill or rent assistance programs, enroll into shelters, or get the basic needs they have fulfilled.

The only location in Rock Island Illinois itself is the Family Thrift Store. This will of course be open to the general public, and it sells a wide variety of goods. The cost will be much less than a typical retail store or online site such as Amazon.com.

Everything sold by the Salvation Army is the result of donations sent to them. There may be items including clothing, furniture, bedding, toys, car supplies, and electronics. During the winter months in Rock Island County there is often a demand for winter gear. This is when the store stocks boots, winter hats, and jackets for adults and children. Everything sold is gently used yet affordable. So shop there, donate, or volunteer in an effort to help the less fortunate. If someone needs more free goods, then they can try a free clothing bank for support.

The Rock Island County Salvation Army will work with partners to end homelessness, and this service incorporates neighboring towns, cities, and counties. Regional Family Service Centers provide housing and shelter programs. One small part of this will be financial aid for housing costs ranging from energy bills to first months rent or a deposit. This will only be available though once all conditions have been met, which are as follows.

  • -Programs and workshops focus on personal development.
  • -Goal oriented programs are put into place by the client and a case worker, and the Salvation Army staff members tries to motivate the client as well as ensure they are hitting targets.

The end result is permanent housing stability in Rock County. The case worker will help the client find an affordable home/apartment to move into. Or they locate regional transitional housing programs. The Salvation Army will assist people of all backgrounds, whether they are disabled, veterans, refugees, or women fleeing a DV situation.

The Rock Island County Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center is for men only. It gives clients counseling, a safe place to sleep, hot meals, clothes, and more. The goal is to help the male get back into society and be a contributing member of their local community. The case manager will also assist the male with finding a job, and there may be volunteer opportunities also held for them at the thrift store that is referenced above as well.

Linkage and referrals are also a key part of this Salvation Army center as well as nationwide locations. The charity is a source for information on both one time assistance programs as well as those that operate year round. Note the Salvation Army in Rock County will not operate these programs themselves, but the staff often have details on resources.

There is always a demand for social services. Whether the individual lost their job, is going through a crisis, or someone living in poverty wants to better themselves, resources are available. Some examples of services are as follows.

There may be rental and housing assistance, including from non-profits such as Project NOW. The Salvation Army is always a source of information on holiday programs, whether it is Toys for Tots or free Thanksgiving or Christmas dinners. There is also referrals to LIHEAP in Rock Island County, local food pantries, and disaster relief programs among many other assistance programs arranged.

The Rock Island County Salvation Army Family Thrift Store is at 2125 11th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201. This is the place to shop and learn about other resources in the community. Call 309-794-0220.
