Rankin and Madison County food pantries.

The food pantries and charities that run them in the counties of Rankin and Madison offer many services to struggling families. First and foremost, they are focused on feeding the hungry and helping people facing an emergency. This is generally done by providing enough groceries or fresh foods to last for a few days.

The next step will often be referrals to more long term, poverty fighting programs. There are several in Alabama as well as Rankin County. They range from Supplemental Nutrition Assistance food stamps to surplus USDA commodities. The application process for these will generally take time, but they can help supplement the resources available at a pantry.

Another option is for people to call a food bank for information on other programs. These will range from clothing to Christmas or Thanksgiving meals. Some even offer school supplies to working poor families.
