Providence House assistance programs in Caddo Parish.

Case managers from Providence House help the low income and homeless in Caddo Parish Louisiana. The non-profit works to end the cycle of homelessness. Among other things, Providence House will help families gain the access to the assistance they need to move permanently to independent living situations.

The organization works to address the root cause of poverty and homelessness. Case managers take a holistic approach to understanding, identifying, and using solutions through systemic change. Providence House also partners with local service providers, charities, and non-profit in Caddo Parish in order to help the less fortunate. The agency expects responsibility and accountability from both the families and others in order to achieve goals and be successful. The aid is offered as a hand up and not a hand out.

Resources available in Shreveport

There are several assistance programs available. Among them, Providence House provides short term shelter and more mid-term transitional housing. Those “guests” of these programs also need to participate in case management such as child care, education programs, parenting, credit counseling, money management, and life skills development.

For individuals or families who participate and qualify in the housing programs, Providence House is a bridge back to long term self-sufficiency. Families and participants need to enroll and work with a licensed social worker and also a local family advocate. They will learn life skills that help reverse the cycle of homelessness and low income.

After going through this case management process, if successful, participants go though the Project Next Step. This will offer them low income, subsidized apartments and they are based throughout Caddo Parish Louisiana. Participants will also continue to receive case management, information on job training and access to other services through Providence House for many months. As part of this transitional housing, clients will need to save a portion of their income and also pay some of the rent on their own.

In order to qualify, applicants need to be facing imminent eviction or be currently homeless. They need to be able and willing to work full time. They also need to be committed to improving their living conditions as well. The goal is to help families avoid welfare, stop receiving public assistance and dependency on public agencies.

  • Pathways to Success, which is a series of courses covering critical life skills.
  • General Counseling and Support Groups.
  • Job Training and free Career Counseling services.

  • Child Education and Development Center.

Another key service is referrals to other community services in Shreveport Louisiana area. Staff from the non-profit work to strengthen families and clients by building upon their existing assets and strengths. They will help them realize their longer term potential through giving them encouragement, support and access to the necessary resources.

Providence House will also work with clients towards self-sufficiency and ending the cycle of homelessness and generational poverty. The assets and skills gained by the residents who serve in their program open up a realm of possibilities and future, stable housing.

The Providence House is located at 814 Cotton Street, Shreveport, Louisiana 71101. Call 318-221-7887.
