Ouachita Parish food pantries.

Food pantries and soup kitchens in Ouachita Parish are mostly run at churches in the region. Several of them are only open a couple days per week or even certain months, such as during the summer so they can feed students that are out of school. The other clients of these food pantries in Ouachita Parish tend to be the underemployed or families facing a short term emergency.

There are between 10 to 15 non-profits that provide assistance to needy residents. Most of the distribution centers are located in the city of  Monroe, but there are other locations throughout the parish. Or the volunteers that work at these pantries can refer the applicant to a location that is closer to where someone lives.

The amount of food assistance at these centers is limited. But what may be provided ranges from a free box of groceries to holiday meals, small Christmas gifts, clothes, and personal hygiene items for the homeless. Several of the locations will also provide case management and applications to SNAP food stamps or similar aid.
