Ocean County Salvation Army assistance programs.

Families that are struggling may be able to get help from the Salvation Army. The non-profit operates in Ocean County New Jersey. Case managers can provide direct financial assistance for bills, mortgages, deposits or rent to clients, as resources allow. The Salvation Army also gives away free Christmas gifts to kids, school supplies as well as turkey meals in Ocean County. Or if you do not meet qualifications, or if funds are used up, then the organization can usually provide referrals to other non-profit Ocean County resources or government programs, including homeless shelters as well as clothing banks.

Free food, meals, gift, and school supply assistance programs

Thanksgiving and Christmas assistance is always a focus, especially for children and seniors in the community. The Salvation Army and its volunteers provide eligible Ocean County New Jersey residents with support. This can include free toys, food, gifts, clothing, visitations for seniors and more during the holidays. Some examples include Adopt a Family, Angel Tree, and more.

Seasonal events can also be held, such as serving a free meal at Thanksgiving or Christmas. Children may be given a small gift too. This can help bring a sense of peace to families in challenging times. The Salvation Army and their volunteers across Ocean County try to spread the holiday cheer in the region.

Food pantries are located at most sites in Ocean County that the Salvation Army runs. These can be turned to in an emergency, as a last resort. Some of the standard items in these pantries may include canned goods and other non-perishable items, such as bags of rice or breads. The very low income and homeless may also look into the soup kitchens for a hot breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Or work with a case manager in applying for programs such as food stamps.

Thrift stores and free clothing banks are available. The Salvation Army Corps Community Centers provide their clients access to new and gently used clothing. It can be a winter coat, professional work attire, and more. The very low income may receive a voucher for free goods.

The centers will mostly distribute what has been donated from the community. In highest demand from the needy tend to be shoes, boots, winter coats for children, clothing for work, and school supplies for students. Many individuals from Ocean County donate used household furniture, items and their surplus clothing. So if you can give back to the Salvation Army, please do so. Many people even contribute goods as they are moving and do that rather than throw items out.

Nutrition Programs are for seniors, children, students on break, and others. Just some examples of these services include Meals On Wheels and also congregate feedings. This can include a free or low cost breakfast and lunch daily to seniors and offers many related recreational, educational, and social activities.

Some other ways seniors can get help include Telephone Reassurance and the Senior Companion Program. This can provide companions (mostly volunteers) to shut ins, the disabled and at-risk or fragile elderly seniors who can’t leave on their own.
