Free holiday or Christmas assistance Northeastern Tennessee.

The primary Christmas toy program in the Northeast Tennessee area, including Kingsport and Johnson City, is Toys for Tots, but there are also several other charities that may help the less fortunate during the holidays. There are churches that serve meals, places that may offer free gifts to children, and holiday food baskets from pantries. The leading organizations in Washington, Green, Carter and Sullivan County are below.

Depending on what has been donated to the charity or church listed below, a family may be able to get a food basket with a turkey, meat, groceries, and more. Some of the charities, such as the Salvation Army, often have free Christmas gifts as well for children and senior citizens. This is mostly as a result of donations from the community, including Angel Tree or Toys for Tots. Note any holiday assistance programs are first come and served, so applications are accepted early.

Even if a family does not qualify for a free Christmas present or meal, referrals are often given. As there may be other local Sullivan and Washington County charities that can help.
