Salvation Army centers disbursed across northeastern Georgia are committed to helping struggling families meet their needs. Clients may be temporarily unemployed, faced with a crisis, or have some other type of short term hardship. Case managers from centers in cities like Toccoa or counties including Habersham will provide direct financial assistance, if possible, or they may offer referrals.
Emergency assistance and family services are offered to those who qualify. The Salvation Army, working with partner organizations and government resources, can help ensure a family gets its basic needs met. Most of what is available in the region is done so through the statewide Project Share program.
At the same time someone is seeking financial aid, social workers also offer long term self-sufficiency. This can include information on employment resources in northeast Georgia, job training, and much more. Case managers from the Salvation Army in regions such as Hall and Franklin want to assist people when they are struggling and to very importantly help them get back on track with paying the bills and providing for themselves.
When someone has no other options, and if funding allows, then limited amounts of financial assistance may be paid out. This can include homeless prevention type funds, so money for rent, energy bills, food, or similar expenses. Some basic medical needs may be met too, in particular prescriptions and information on local community clinics in the northeastern part of Georgia.
A focus of the Salvation Army in Habersham and Franklin County is always on homeless prevention. It is much better for the family, and less expensive for society at large, to provide some crisis assistance to people on the verge of eviction or a utility shut off. However if someone is currently homeless then the agency will coordinate short term shelter and transitional housing across Georgia.
The availability of any aid will vary, and much of it will come from Project Share. Some of those other resources that may be offered include free grocery vouchers that put non-perishable food on the table of low income and working poor families. Volunteers may even bring meals to seniors and the homebound in the community as well. All of this is done in an effort to ensure people have their nutritional needs met.
The Salvation Army will also focus on veterans and military personnel. Financial aid and information on federal government benefits can be provided for their needs. The agency is a great resource for those that have served our country.
Numerous other social services are offered at corp centers or non-profit partner organizations. If you are interviewing for a job but can't go to the session, then some people may be able to obtain a voucher for gasoline or a buss pass. Clothing for work may be provided. Or look into items such as school uniforms. Any potential clients will need to call a local Salvation Army center in Georgia for an appointment and to go through the official application process. Also, please keep in mind that most of the support from the Salvation Army will be prioritized to the elderly, families with children, seniors, and those facing a very short term crisis but who are otherwise self-sufficient.
Holiday programs are widely available. This can include Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other support for needy families and children from low income residents. The Salvation Army tries to help spread holiday cheer and joy to needy families and children from the region. Some of the resources will provide clothing, gifts, coats, shoes, and free toys to many children, including senior citizens.
One of the main Christmas programs is Angel Tree. Individuals, businesses and groups of people from the community give gifts and hold toy drives. They are involved in collecting new and unwrapped gifts for the needy and low income as part of this Angel Tree program. The Salvation Army in places like Gainesville Georgia and Hall County, and its number of volunteers, try to help needy families to ensure that their financial hardship is not suffered by their children or newborns.
Get assistance with finding job in the northeastern part of the state too. A number of career counseling and employment services are provided by the organization. A case worker can provide a qualified client with access to phone banks, computers, information on employers in Hall County and other areas, and much more. They often have information on government training resources as well, such as WIA.
If you apply for financial assistance from Project Share or other sources, then any grants paid out by the Salvation Army will require the client to partner with a social worker to figure out what caused the hardship and to solve it. In addition, those families from the region may also get referrals to government programs that operate in northeastern Georgia. This can include county, state, or federal government aid.
