Newberry Utility Bill Assistance Program

This program has provided thousands of dollars in aid to families in Newberry. The City of Newberry’s Utility Assistance Program helps lower income residents with paying their energy bills.

The Central Florida Community Action Agency has also contributed to helping low-income residents who are currently struggling to pay their utility bills. Call 352-472-2161.

The city of Newberry Florida created this assistance program after residents experienced excessively high utility bills, some reaching as high as $900 for a single month’s bill, that were the result of poor management at the utility company. In addition to the cash grants being provided, the Newberry City Commission has also provided residents a break on their utility bills by charging 10 percent less than it should on the average monthly bill. Newberry Florida is also served by the Alachua County/Newberry Social Services program. A number of programs and resources are offered to qualified low income. Range from emergency housing and rent assistance, to health care such as hearing aids and vision. Limited prescription assistance is offered to qualified people too. (352) 264-6750

Newberry Salvation Army (phone (352) 376-1743) refers people to an utility bill program that can provide help for bills a once per 12 month period payment. They also partner with other Florida energy bill programs.

Other programs administered in Newberry include free food, clothing, and housing services and support for the low income. A homeless shelter is even offered on site.
