New Hampshire Agency on Aging assistance programs

Seniors who need assistance in New Hampshire can contact an Agency on Aging office listed below. The non-profit centers can direct individuals to government programs and they may be able to offer some direct assistance. This is for elderly and senior citizens that meet qualifications. Specialists, volunteers, and other professionals who are affiliated with these New Hampshire centers can provide help and guidance.

Receive information on your medical bills, fraud prevention, and other support from the New Hampshire Senior Medicare Patrol Project. Most of the services and information provided is offered at no cost. It can allow people to protect themselves and the overall federal government Medicare program from abuse, fraud, and waste. There can even be cash bonuses paid out to seniors who report valid instances of fraud that occurs in New Hampshire.

Meals on Wheels is offered in some New Hampshire towns, counties, and communities. What the program does is it delivers free or low cost hot meals to the elderly and homebound senior citizens who are unable to shop or cook food for themselves. Many Agency on Aging offices help coordinate this service, often in partnership with local non-profits, charities, and churches. Meals tend to be delivered seven days per week, with frozen food offered for the weekend. A minimal fee may be required from the recipient.

Caregiver Respite Programs are available from a variety of services that are coordinated by the Office for Aging. It can provide relief, a break, and other support to the caregiver. Some of the other state or federal programs that offer respite include Expanded In-home Services for the Elderly (EISEP), Adult Day Care, and The Senior Citizen Helpers Program.

The NH Family Caregiver Support Program partners with ServiceLink as well as the Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services. Resources provide individual counseling and access to support groups, education and training to help develop care giving skills, information about community programs and local resources, and also help in identifying options and accessing local non-profit providers.

These various resources can help caregivers and their immediate families meet the daily challenge of caring for an elderly or disabled spouse or relative. Respite services provide qualified family members with time to pursue personal interests, run errands and allows them an opportunity for a break from the demands of caring for someone else. Other support offered includes chore services, assistive equipment, transportation services, and home modifications. Call ServiceLink at 1-866-634-9412, or your local agency on aging office.

A number of other case management, social services, and emergency assistance is offered from ServiceLink.
