Montgomery County Maryland housing assistance from Emergency Services Program.

Find programs that offer emergency housing assistance in Montgomery County Maryland. Families can get help with paying past due rent, utilities, moving costs, shelter, or other housing concerns.

The primary resource administered across the county is Crisis Intervention, which is also called the Emergency Services Program. There are several different components to it as indicated below. The primary goal of the program is to minimize, and ideally prevent evictions and help individuals deal with other housing-related crisis situations that Montgomery County residents may face. Funds can be used to help pay energy bills, rent, security deposits, and address other housing needs.

Another option is the Welfare Avoidance Grant (WAG), which is a lump sum cash assistance payment that can be provided to Montgomery County families who are also technically eligible for Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA). Applicants also need to have an immediate crisis that is preventing them from working or that is preventing them from paying their monthly rent or housing expenses. Staff from the state of Maryland will work with individuals throughout the region to identify customers for whom cash assistance from WAGs can be used instead of TCA to address an employment-related crisis that might otherwise result in job loss. Case managers can also try to help people obtain employment. Examples of crises can include leaving a job due to transportation problems created by non-traditional work hours or a remote job location or difficulties meeting day care expenses.

Or you can apply for emergency financial assistance from the Housing Crisis Intervention Services program. Staff from the Montgomery County government provide resources that include emergency cash grants and financial assistance for security deposits, past due utilities, past due rent, moving or storage costs and emergency shelter placement. Also get access to shelter for families or adults who are homeless or at high risk of losing their home, persons stranded away from home, or victims of individual or community disasters. Even get help for funeral expenses.

Employment Support Grant (ESG) - Temporary Cash Assistance can be provided to people who need help paying for employment-related expenses and other financial or housing emergencies. The total grant limit is $500.00 and is available one time only to qualified families in Montgomery County Maryland. Examples are for child care, short-term training/educational sources, transportation, or any other employment related need.

There are several different offices around the county to apply to for the various Emergency Services Program. Even after applying, if you still do not qualify for money to pay your rent, electric bills, or housing costs, many of the centers can oftentimes direct families to other local non-profits or charities.

Call or stop by one of these locations to apply for housing assistance grants and funds.
