Michigan hospital financial assistance.

Northern Michigan Hospital - A businessman from Onaway has created a fund that will be providing financial assistance for paying medical and hospital bills to patients of Northern Michigan Hospital. Residents of the surrounding areas, including Presque Isle and Cheboygan counties, will be qualified to apply for help.

The person who created the charity fund, Tom Moran, is the the owner of Moran Iron Works which is based in Onaway Michigan. He created the assistance program, which is known as the Moran Iron Works Fund, earlier this year to provide immediate financial assistance to patients in need who are from the cities, town, and communities surrounding Moran Iron Works. In addition, the founder is also the vice chair of the Northern Michigan Regional Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and he currently serves as the secretary of the Northern Michigan Regional Health System Board of Trustees.

The financial assistance fund was created and is intended to help patients and families in need with paying for medical supplies, hospital bills, minor medical equipment, prescription medications and travel expenses related to healthcare and hospital stays. Since it was established, it has assisted about 10 people per month.

The financial assistance fund was established with a fairly large $50,000 pledge up front, of which $10,000 will be available for patient assistance each year for the next five years. Donations are constantly being accepted, and new money is added to the fund. For just the second quarter of this year, almost $5,000 from the charity fund has been used to help with the financial strain of healthcare costs and bills for individuals from Cheboygan and Presque Isle counties. Ask Northern Michigan Hospital about this fund if you need help paying for your bills and health care expenses. (231) 487-4000
