Lyon County Nevada assistance programs.

Find how to get help from churches, charities, and government offices. There is financial help for everything ranging from rent to electric or light bills, free food from pantries, dental or medical care, and more. The case management process in Lyon County is also combined with this financial assistance, meaning that the organizations want to end poverty and provide long term solutions.

Low income families, the elderly, disabled, and single moms generally get priority. Find where to get help, counseling, housing resources, transportation and other financial aid below.

In an emergency, find how and where to apply at for financial help. Locate free food or grants for paying rent or utility bills, money for security deposits or gasoline, or free mortgage or foreclosure help in Lyon County. Lyons County Nevada and the Reno area have received additional federal government funds to help those in need through the Community Services Block Grant program. The state of Nevada will receive a funding boost of over $5 million for the CSBG assistance program over the next two years.

Those looking for aid should contact the Lyon County Human Services, phone (775) 577-5009, as it was one of 12 community action agencies in Nevada that are designated by the state and federal government to receive this additional block grant funding and assistance. A good portion of the grants will be used to provide families with one-time rental and security deposit assistance,  help with utility payments, clothing and food vouchers, job training, medical care, and child care.

In addition, Lyon County Human Services will be partnering with the Nevada JobConnect's JOIN unit to provide job training, employment and life skills training to any families and individuals who are either unemployed or underemployed. The Family Resource Center is available in Silver Springs Nevada, and the programs serves the greater Lyons County region. Resources from the program may allow people to access services focused on low-income families. There are many benefits offered for individuals who reside across the county, with a focus on those in the following zip codes: 89429, 89430, 89444, 89408, 89447, 89403, and 89428.

 

 

 

Programs and services offered by FRC include emergency financial assistance and cash grants to help with rent, utilities, cooling bills and prescription needs when funds are available. There is also help from the NRHA Security Deposit Assistance program, no-interest loans, and even applications to TANF for basic needs. Lyon County Human Services is a government run agency that does offer emergency services. The agency may be able to provides financial assistance to people in a crisis. Get help with such emergency needs as rent assistance, shelter, money to pay your mortgage or prevent a foreclosure, and utilities, on time in a 12 month period. Human Services may also be able to provides payment for emergency medical and health care and other necessary services rendered in a medical facility or community clinic. Yerington Community Health Nursing Clinic - This center is a well regarded and trusted source for getting access to healthcare for the uninsured, working poor, low income, indigent, and rural populations within the Lyon County region of Nevada. The clinic operates on a so called sliding fee scale depending on the homeowners total household income.

The clinic will not deny services due to inability to pay for a medical or hospital bill. Specifically, the clinic in Lyon County provides a number of services such as free or low-cost health and medical care services to residents of all ages and household incomes, including: Health Education;, Family Planning, Education, Immunizations, Counseling and Treatment; Cancer Screening.

In addition to the services above, other assistance includes free Well-Child Examinations and Healthy Kid Screenings; School Health Promotion and Education, Sexually Transmitted Disease Education and Counseling; HIV/AIDS Counseling, Education and Testing; Communicable Disease Investigation; Tuberculosis Screening and Education;  and Children's Special Health Care Needs Referrals to other providers as needed. Fernley First Baptist Church of Fernley Nevada (phone 775-575-4565‎) provides free food one day per week to the needy.

Another non-profit charity to call for food is Silver Springs Christian Center. Dial 775-577-2456. This organization also only provides food once per week.
