Love Inc of Dekalb and Sycamore resources.

A faith based charity that operates in the region is Love Inc. of Dekalb and Sycamore. The organization mostly serves as a referral service. They help coordinate assistance programs among local volunteers, charities, and churches and can refer low income families to those resources and other options. The primary programs and so called ministries available in the region are noted below.

Any assistance will come with case management and self-sufficiency. The organization will only provide help as a last resort, and it should not be thought of as a government benefit or charity. Clients need to show an ability and desire for self-sufficiency.

The Clearinghouse also offer referrals. Not only can individuals get referred to the churches and programs, but in some cases Love will have advice or suggestions on where to turn to for financial aid. An intake process will need to occur, including proof of hardship and the cause of it.

Basic needs such as furniture, food and household items

Most of the resources noted below rely on donations from the community. Volunteers help collect and sort the items, and they are then provided to qualified residents. Please do contribute if you can, as that is the only thing that keeps this service running.

Pans, silverware, utensils, glasses, lighting (such as lamps) and cookware is part of the Kitchen or also the Lamp Ministry. Hillcrest Covenant runs this, and they are based at 1515 N. First Street, Dekalb, IL

Food pantries will generally help a qualified families at to once per week. Canned goods, pastas, fruits, and other goods may be offered.

Personal Care items may be offered. This is in addition to food. Paper products, shampoos, and similar goods are passed out. Salem Lutheran is at 1145 Dekalb Avenue, Sycamore, IL

Gently used furniture, such as end table, futons, chairs, couches, recliners, small desk, and rockers are all collected by churches and offered in partnership with Love INC. There are also dining table and chairs. 151 W Lincoln Hwy, DeKalb, Illinois.

Appliances such as microwaves, refrigerators (various sizes), stoves, washing machine, dryer, freezers, and air conditioners are distributed, as available. 151 W Lincoln Hwy, DeKalb, Illinois.

Baby supplies are part of Moses Basket. Items are for newborns and infants up to two years of age. Various baby furniture supplies, such as swings, pack and play, change tables, car seats, strollers, bouncers, etc. are offered to moms and parents that meet application conditions. Dekalb Wesleyan Church runs this program and they are at 1115 S. Malta Road, Dekalb, IL

Electronic goods may be distributed by the charity. This will include computers/monitors, clocks, space heaters, microwaves, televisions, and items such as electric kitchen items. 151 W Lincoln Hwy, DeKalb, Illinois.

Sleeping items, such as beds, mattresses, Box springs and bed frames rarely available.
The Love Inc. Diaper Ministry assists low income families or single moms that are trying to take proper care of their child. Using donations, there may be free wipes, diapers, or even goods such as cribs for moms and families.

New or gently used sheets, blankets, pillows, and towels are part of the Love Inc of Dekalb and Sycamore Linen Ministry. First Lutheran Church runs this at 324  N. Fourth Street, Dekalb, Illinois.

 

 

 

 

Bikes are available. They can be to use for work, job interviews, school or even to run errands.

Meals are served as part of Heaven's Diner. It is a family type service organized by Love Inc and its partners. 151 W Lincoln Hwy, DeKalb, IL.

Helping Hands program and the Life Skills Ministry will help those battling an addiction. Meals, vouchers, a gift certificates for work items may be passed out. There is also education, such as GED classes.

Transportation assistance

These assistance programs are offered, but resources are very limited. Love will do the best to refer clients to programs in the Dekalb Illinois or nearby regions.

Car repairs, not including the parts, may be done by volunteer mechanics. The care needs to be used for interviews, getting to jobs, work, grocery store or school in the region. Christ Community Church has information. 1600 E. Lincoln Hwy. (Rt. 38), Sycamore, IL

 

 

 

Gasoline Vouchers are for clients facing a hardship. They are free and will be used for interviews, job training, critical medical appointment, or some type of crisis.
