Providing assistance to the low income is a core function of the Louisville Kentucky based Society of St. Vincent. The charity organization and the churches it works with provide resources such as food, clothing, housing, and general case management. Services are offered across Jefferson County.
Volunteers from the so called conferences work with clients to help them over the short and long term. Being one of the oldest social service agencies, assisting people across the county who are homeless or poor, and helping them rise above their circumstances is a core mission. The charity runs a number of supportive housing programs, professional case management, and shelters for the region. The agency offers hope for low income people struggling to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency.
For the short term, St. Vincent will try to help Louisville residents fulfill their basic needs. Examples of this includes food and meals from the Open Hand Kitchen. Christmas programs are administered. Clothing may be distributed, as well as rare financial assistance.
Several thrift stores operate around Jefferson County. The charity will rely on the generous support of local individuals, donors, and even businesses for all of the merchandise that is for sale. What may be offered to the general public, at reduced prices, includes general clothing, household items, work attire, and furniture. St. Vincent de Paul is involved in managing the sale of goods in the thrift stores. The very poor may sometimes receive a voucher that they can use to shop for free items. The money raised from the sale of the goods is used to finance the various financial assistance programs.
Some of the holiday goods for sale can include tree ornaments, Christmas tinsel, and other holiday gifts. During the Thanksgiving and Christmas season, children can obtain affordability priced children's toys and clothing and other gifts.
Louisville families can receive other support, some of which is financial aid, from local churches and St. Vincent. All of this depends on funding and the exact church. Some of what may be offered includes.
