Louisiana job training programs.

The state of Louisiana and the federal government partner together to provide several employment services to those who need help. Many of the resources are available at your local Career Center. Residents who use the sites can be unemployed or just seeking new skills or training, which can help them when starting a new career. These offices are located across the state and assist thousands of individuals per year. Some of the main resources in Louisiana are listed below.

The Incumbent Worker Training Program can help both businesses and state residents. Government funds and resources are used to assist in the skill development of existing employees. This can, among other things, lead to increased employee productivity and eventually to the growth of the company. Any training that is offered will be customized to fit the needs of the employer.

In order for an employer to benefit, they need to have operated in the state and contributed proper funding to Louisiana’s unemployment insurance system. Generally they need to have at least 15 employees, but small employers can also benefit by working with the state and other employers.

If you are an employee seeking to join the program, inquire with your current employer. They may be able to provide additional information or can sign up for the Incumbent Program.

The Louisiana Job Employment and Training Program is offered locally in most cities and parishes. It can provide employment and a number of job training programs for the working poor, including food stamp recipients. The main goal is to get people back on their feet, off of government support, and into a stable job. Some of the services provided are below.

  • Plan your career.
  • Evaluate your current job skills and career interests.
  • See where you current reading and math skills stand.
  • Learn about careers and jobs that may be suitable for you.
  • Find out more about what employers expect of their workers.
  • Get information about businesses and companies in Louisiana that may be hiring as well as employers in your local area.
  • Identify the skills and experiences that you now have that match with a variety of jobs.
  • Getting education and skills, including improving your current skills or obtain training for new jobs skills.
  • Improve current math, reading and writing skills.
  • Get free information about education, community colleges and training schools, such as their tuition and success in placing.

 

 

 

Numerous state and federal resources are dedicated towards training. Those who qualify can receive some or all of the following.

  • Basic skills workplace training, including use of a computer, fax machines, and similar tasks.
  • Individual assessment and counseling to help a candidate learn their strengths and interests.
  • Job readiness and training, including some that may be on the job.
  • Literacy training, including ESL or GED testing.
  • Get referrals to other non-profit agencies and government programs in Louisiana.
  • Work ethic development training.

After going through all of this, get help with finding work. This can include the services of a dedicated job search specialist.

  • Find out about job vacancies in your parish or really anywhere in your state.
  • Get tips and learn about the best strategies for finding a job.
  • Assistance on preparing for job interviews and go through a mock session.
  • Get help from a specialist in preparing and editing your resume. Go through the posting process as well using different databases and web sites.
  • Workshops allow you to both share your job-search strategies with other seekers and to get advice from them.

If you have been suddenly fired or find yourself unemployed, then Career Centers can help with this as well. Get help from a counselor in coping with the stress of dealing with a job loss. Receive information on financial assistance programs to apply at and get general help in coping financially with the loss of a job. Also, learn about community resources in your parish and really across Louisiana.

Welfare to Work is available locally even though it is paid for by the Louisiana Department of Labor. The program was created in an effort transition welfare benefactors back into stability and sustainable full time employment.

Having experience and training is really the key to getting any job. So Welfare to Work will offer Vocational training, Community service, On-the-job training, and provide people with relevant Work experience.

Some of the other transitional services available in Louisiana include the following. Register for child care assistance, Financial counseling, get help with paying for housing and other employment related expenses. This may even include transportation costs.

Work with a career counselor on job coaching. They will offer welfare recipients with occupational assessments, Substance abuse counseling and referral, and transportation assistance to an interview or training session.

Career Solutions Centers offer clients the Workforce Development & Training program. It is highly flexible and uses both public and private resources to keep it operating. It offers candidates pre-employment, counseling and worker upgrade training. Your local office will process applications, however it is truly administered by the Louisiana Department of  Economic Development.

The Workforce Investment Act utilizes federal government grants to provide information and support to the state. All services are offered at your Career Center. Some of the resources available include assessment, screening, and referrals of potential employees, offering hiring incentives for unemployed workers, free information on high demand careers and jobs, and more.

WIA can almost stimulate the training, employment and retraining of unemployed and economically disadvantaged and dislocated workers. Additional assistance is provided to older workers and seniors over the age of 55. It provides cooperative education, basic skills training, Customized training combining on-the-job training and industry specific training, and other support.

Vocational job training, counseling, and guidance is offered by specialists. A focus is on the disabled, older adults, and senior citizens. Your local career center can help the individual in overcoming any job search issues that impacts your employability. Receive assistance in developing the job techniques and experience that is needed to be successful in a work environment. Sometimes a center can place an individual into a part time role with a local non-profit or community agency for both experience and a limited income.
