A number of centers are committed to helping the needy in the community, no matter what their needs are or their background.
The assistance available from each location will vary. Many of the food banks and churches in the Lexington area run a program known as Angel Food, which provides groceries and perishable items at reduced prices. Other locations in the Lexington area will distribute free groceries, serve a meal, or provide food to the low income as needed.
In addition, the food banks may also be able to provide clothing, holiday meals, household products, and personal hygiene items. It is not open on a walk-in basis. Anyone seeking help needs to have a referral. Resources offered range from the Backpack Program to a Kid’s Cafe to Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).
