Some of the assistance offered may include free food, shelter, and other supportive, such as case management services. This is accomplished through three main programs, and they are Outreach, Emergency Shelter and access to low income Transitional Housing. All services are provided in the form of a a grant to clients as funds become available.

Lazarus House is the only transitional housing program serving the Tri-Cities and western rural Kane County. Depending on availability of both government and private funding, they provide assistance with mortgage, rent and utility bill payments to qualifying households. Additionally, the non-profit will also accept and process applications to join the waiting list for the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Rental Housing Support Program, or RHS.

The Outreach Program from Lazarus House provides the following services to qualifying residents of Kane County. Income and other limits are in place and need to be adhered too.

Cash Grants are available in Illinois. The Outreach staff provides callers with information in regard to available funds in the Kane County service area, such as the ESG emergency solutions grant or eviction prevention. The charity will administer these federal government sponsored resources, as they are available, to assist those in need with one-time needs.

The most common requests are help for paying back rent, home loans, and heating bill expenses. All the funds are intended to help people maintain their current housing situation. Qualifying households must be able to show and document a crisis, such as illness, sudden and unexpected loss of employment, and the like. Additionally, they must be able to demonstrate that they have the ability to make their monthly rent, mortgage, and energy bill payments going forward on their own in the future. In some cases, long-term rental subsidies (such as section 8) are offered for income-eligible households in Kane County.

Lazarus House Case Management Services as well as referrals are available from staff as well as volunteers. The agency is prepared to provide comprehensive advice and guidance upon request to clients participating in the various selected grant programs. Services include credit repair, assistance with creating and following a budget, and referral to other non-profit agencies, as needed.

Linkage to either churches, charities, or government subsidies are also provided. This is mostly in the event that a household is in need of services that Lazarus House is not capable of providing on their own. This may be due to lack of sufficient funding or client ineligibility. Case managers from the non-profit will do their best to provide links and/or referrals to community assistance programs.
