Free food pantries, groceries and meals Kootenai County.

In an emergency, free food is available from pantries across Kootenai County as well as the largest city of Coeur d'Alene. Charities will require proof of residency, income, and number of people in the household. Find where to get free groceries from a food bank near you, hot meals, personal hygiene items and more below. There is also a phone number at the bottom of the page for more resources.

For those families that qualify for assistance in the form of free food or household supplies, what may be provided is below. Many of the free pantries are open daily - even today. There are also free holiday meals and food baskets in Kootenai County, such as at Easter, Thanksgiving or Christmas.

  • Standard grocery items may be passed out, such ab peanut Butter, canned fruits and vegetables, pasta, and more.
  • Low income or single parents with babies or infants may receive free formula.
  • Senior citizens and the disabled in Kootenai County can receive a home delivered meal, including at the holidays.
  • Non-food items such as clothes, school supplies, cleaning supplies, and more.

Those are just some examples of what a charity run food bank may have. But of course families, including the homeless, can turn to a local soup kitchen. Many of those are at churches. They may have personal hygiene items, blankets, Thanksgiving meals, and other emergency support.
