Free job training programs in Kentucky.

Many of the programs offered for the unemployed in Kentucky are provided by One-Stop Career Centers and the Office of Employment and Training. Among other services provided, the state maintains listings of current job openings, resource centers provide services such as resume reviews, and counselors can help clients enroll into several private and/or government funded job training programs. Find how and where to get free job training, career services and support in in KY near you below. A number of employment assistance programs are available for those who need to attain self-sufficiency. The main customer service number is (502) 564-0871 for referrals as well.

Most counties and major towns have One-Stop Career Centers that can provide services to the unemployed and job seekers. They also provide assistance to people who are looking to learn a new skill or increase their income. A number of resources are offered from the on site Resource Centers.

If you need to plan your career, get a job, find out your interests and skills, or enhance your marketability to employers in Kentucky, then the Resource Centers may be able to help throughout this process. They offer a number of free programs and services. Examples of what can be used by qualified clients include word-processing and resume preparation software, Internet access, use of printers, telephones, copiers, fax machines, instructive materials, tutorials and information on a large number of job openings. Strengthening your computer and software skills can lead to more advanced and higher income job opportunities.

Counselors at the Kentucky sites can help people Self-Register with Office of Employment and Training or file Unemployment Claims over the Internet. They will also provide job seekers with information on local labor market conditions and career information. Or assistance can be offered too, including information on free Internet programs.

Use the tools and resources on your own too. Personal Computers are available for your use, free of charge. You can enter your resume into the Kentucky Talent Bank, access to local, regional, statewide and national job listings, and take tests or workshops on Skill Level testing in Typing, Spelling, Grammar, Math, and Data Entry. Assistive Technology is located on site for the Visually Impaired or disabled.

Veteran assistance programs are offered and this is done as a priority. The Kentucky Office of Employment and Training’ offices have specialized and highly trained Employment Representatives who focus on the needs of veterans and anyone who served in the military, even reservists.

These Outreach Specialists are assigned specifically to help military members, their spouses, and veterans with their employment and training needs. They also partner with other government organizations and non-profits such as the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans' Employment and Training Service. The assistance can help them improve their employability and career options in the civilian workforce.

The One-Stop Career Centers have information on the state’s largest resource of job openings. They are also part of the national network of Employment Services, which is an organization that operates across the United States. Counselors and staff on site can connect residents with employment opportunities both in Kentucky and nationwide through America's Job Bank. The offices can provide clients with access to employment related services conveniently through one source or database.

More specialty resources are available as well. Your local center, as well as the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, administrates a number of programs and services that are designed to assist senior citizens and disabled individuals with specific needs. Federal government funded programs, such as SCSEP, are focused on placing individuals over the age of 55 into part time jobs that provide both experience and a source of income to families.

Training classes and workshops are offered for people that are unemployed or that currently have jobs. Many of the clients of the job training in Kentucky are fully employed and are just looking to acquire a new skill or experience to further their career. Some of the classes and workshops provide Microsoft Word classes, distribute advice regarding interview techniques, and have Workshops on Resume Writing and Interviewing Techniques. Some of them are held as tutorials which allow people to learn at their own pace. Many are held in partnership with Kentucky community action agencies, which are an effective resource for help including computers, internet, and more.

Job Placement and Search services are widely available. Most employers in your local county or county list their available job openings with the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. This will usually include a complete job description and also a list of qualifications required for the position.

However, note that in order to access this information you will need to register at the One-Stop Career Centers. Clients will need to provide information relating to your experience, work history, current skills and any special education and training that you may have. This will allow a counselor from your local Career Centers to conduct a more effective job search with you. When a job matching your experience, interests and qualifications occurs, the candidate will be contacted by your agency staff or Local Veteran Representatives. This process will help automate the process.

The federal government provides Kentucky grants as part of the Workforce Investment Act. The state will use this money to provide assistance to the disabled, youth, displaced workers, and seniors. There are a few core components of this resource, including core services, intensive case management, and more in depth training.

As an example of the assistance offered by the WIA program, a displaced or unemployed worker is someone who either just lost their job or was notified of an upcoming termination. Specialists from your local One-Stop Career Centers will work with that individual who was impacted. Customers can have an assessment completed of their current skills, learn about local job openings that may fit their background, and be able to register for free educational or training programs that are held across Kentucky.
