They can drop in and purchase items such as gently-used shoes, clothes, furniture, games, Christmas or birthday toys and more. The location, also known as a Family Store by the Salvation Army, also provides volunteer opportunities for the unemployed or people looking to rejoin the work force. It can give them valuable experience. Donors to the store will consistently give Salvation Army gently used furniture and home accessories, books, and clothing for all members of the family. Any contribution is greatly appreciated.

Free Salvation Army Johnson County programs provide seasonal items. Using donations, the faith based charity may give out (1) free back to school supplies including uniforms or backpacks; (2) Christmas toys from Angel Tree; (3) Thanksgiving turkey dinners; (4) Free Easter baskets for kids; (5) Winter clothes such as boots, gloves or jacket and so much more. Any payments are made directly to the lessors, agencies or creditors. When applying for aid from the Johnson County Salvation Army, people need to bring drivers license and/or photo ID, Copy of current signed lease or mortgage agreement, copies of bills that are due, proof of household income, and also proof of the crisis, like car repair, layoff, or medical bill. More may be requested as well, and appointments need to be made.

 

 

 

 

Free case management services

Job and self-sufficiency programs can help teach life skills. Clients will be enrolled into classes that last many weeks. Specialists that partner with Johnson County Salvation Army provide students with work-readiness skills including practicing interviews, writing their resumes, and developing their vocational plan. There may be information on work from home jobs as well for those people looking for a few extra dollars. If a GED is needed, then classes will be arranged to help students study for that.

At the end of these workshops, the client will get support in finding a job, or locate legitimate work from home jobs. Each student who finishes the classes in Johnson County is assigned a mentor who offers support throughout the process. So it relies on a strong partnership of the individual and their mentor, but it can be instrumental in helping people break the cycle of poverty.
