Rent, utility bill and food assistance

Almost $100,000 in federal government funds are being distributed to Henry County and Martinsville, Virginia. The money will be used for providing assistance to those in need of help, including help with rent, utility bill assistance, and food aid. In order to qualify for this emergency assistance program, a person must have received an eviction notice or a utility shutoff notice.

There are many place to go to receive this aid. In addition to The Salvation Army ((276) 638-7259), other agencies or charities that people in a crisis can turn to include the Grace Network ((276) 638-8500), the Henry-Martinsville Social Services department and various other relief agencies throughout Henry County also provide assistance.

Grace Network of Martinsville/Henry is a non-profit that may be able to provide emergency financial assistance and cash grants in the form of financial help with bills, housing, and other aid to residents of both Martinsville Virginia and Henry County. A local government agency which is Henry Martinsville Social Services (phone (276)656-4300). Assistance programs provided include Financial Aid-Utility/Fuel, Medication, Food Pantry/Emergency, and other aid if you call them at (276)656-4300. One of the leading referrals they offer to low income is information on Virginia food pantries and banks.

Henry County Community Action Agency covers a fairly large region around this section of Virginia. Emergency services administer include rent and utility assistance. Applicants for this form of aid will need a  proof of the emergency they are experiencing, such as an eviction notice, utility disconnect, or medical condition. Other programs include Virginia Section 8 housing vouchers, weatherization, emergency food, as well as Head Start.
