Get help with energy and utility bills

Over $100 million dollars in state and federal government assistance is being provided to Texas. The money is intended  to help low to middle income Texans with paying their home energy bills, provide consumer education, install energy saving improvements in peoples homes, and also provide the case management that is needed to reduce their dependence on future government assistance and programs. So money is available to pay a bill in the short term, and provide counseling, including credit card help, and other resources are available to help people get back on their feet over the long term. Financial assistance for housing, bills, and basic needs

Community Services Inc., the local community action agency that is located at 401 E 6th Ave., Corsicana, TX 75151, phone number (903) 872-2401, is administering the funding to people in need. The money they distribute will help pay energy bills for low-income residents living in Anderson, Collin, Denton, Ellis, Henderson, Hood, Hunt, Kaufman, Navarro, Palo Pinto, Rockwall and also Van Zandt counties.

The funds are being awarded through the Department’s Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program, which is a utility co-payment assistance program that also helps eligible households pay for their utility and energy bills, and to also help them better manage their energy consumption for a safe, affordable environment.

Community Services, Inc. of Henderson Texas also offers qualified individuals a wide variety of services and assistance programs, as listed below.

  • Utility assistance and conservation programs – Includes electric and cooling bill assistance and funding for weatherization. Read more weatherization.
  • Programs for energy providers – The agency has information on, and can help people apply for programs from the following utility companies. SWEPCO (American Electric Power Co.), TXU, Reliant, Kinetic Energy, Star Texas Power, Direct Energy, Entergy, FEC Electric, Freedom Power, Gexa Energy, Tarn Energy, Trinity Valley Electric Co-op, and Texas Power

 

 

 

 

  • Gasoline assistance may be offered, but is very limited. It may be available for low income individuals in an emergency who are traveling 25 miles or greater one way for college, job training, or a medical crisis.
  • Emergency rental and access to low income housing in Henderson County. The agency and its staff may have referrals to programs to also pay a security deposit or information on federal or state of Texas grant programs.
  • Direct Client Services are available from this non-profit, and are also coordinated with other agencies and government programs. Another option is the Palestine First Resource Center, which can be contacted at 903-731-9270. At the location you can find a public food bank. Education services are provided for paying fees for a GED and school supplies. Other services include gasoline for emergencies, medication, eye glasses, emergency car repairs and maintenance, disaster assistance for people impacted by a fire or flood. Lodging and shelter can also be arranged.

Sanctuary House – Offers a low interest medical equipment loan program and utility assistance when funds available. Henry Smith Families Inc. – If you are not on food stamps, then the pantry may be able to help. Also the location may have funds for paying electric and cooling bills, prescription medication assistance, household and furniture, and clothing. Henderson County Help Center – Call for emergency financial assistance and referrals. Main number is 903-675-4357

Salvation Army Family Center is based in Malakoff, however it supports Henderson County with a focus on the western portions. Based on donations and funding, there may be emergency financial help for everything from rent to electric bills. Other programs include Christmas gifts from Angel tree, school supplies, and a free food pantry. Case managements is also stressed, and find Henderson County Texas Salvation Army programs.

If you can't come to the food pantry yourself due to a restriction such as a medical condition, then have your doctor or medical professional fax a statement telling why you can't. Medical and health care services

Texas Department of State Health Services is a public health clinic for Henderson County. The center offers pregnancy testing for established clients and Medicaid verification, prevention counseling, adult immunizations, and the Medicaid Women's Health Program. 100 West Brazos, Palestine, Texas 75801, phone number 903-729-1116
