The City of Fort Wayne has launched received almost $10 million in federal grants and is using those funds to launch housing programs. They will include providing rent assistance, mortgage help, and even some aid for home repairs. The various assistance programs will help rehab and improve abandoned homes, help families with making down payments when buying a new or existing home, and those in need can even get help with preventing a foreclosure or receiving rent assistance. The initial funding of the program will provide over $700,000 for homeowner repairs, almost $400,000 for down payment assistance when buying a home, and over $100,000 for a mortgage foreclosure prevention program. Those in need can receive free health care from Living Luke’s Legacy clinic. In addition, the clinic provides free over-the-counter medications to some patients and they can even give prescriptions for antibiotics for others.
