St. Vincent De Paul assistance programs Fort Myers area.

Several churches and conferences are part of the Lee County Florida Society of St. Vincent Society, or SVDP, and they provide financial help, free items, counseling and more. A number of volunteers and others work with the society in order to help the less fortunate and poor. They do their best to meet the basic and critical needs of the community at large. The members of the organization try to address and solve both short and long term needs.

Free food and financial help for bills

Food assistance and meals are provided as resources to all who seek help, including from pantries and soup kitchens in Lee County. The St. Vincent de Paul Society has many volunteers in the region who assist with this. Some of these volunteers may in fact be your neighbors in Fort Myers or across the county. They partner with the churches to visit the poor, seniors, and others who may be struggling. The homebound and senior citizens may even be able to sign up for food assistance from Meals on Wheels.

The charity is very willing and anxious to assist applicants with their immediate emergency needs. When needed, and on some occasions, the Saint Vincent de Paul charity may be able to refer individuals and families to other community agencies in Lee County if they are unable to provide assistance. For example, they work with the United Way and their partner agencies, such as Salvation Army and Catholic Charities. Any one or more of these centers may have the assistance you need. Or they may be able to refer people to other local community agencies who may be able to assist you.

Financial Assistance is available at almost ten St. Vincent de Paul Conferences in the greater Lee County region. The Church of the Resurrection Conference provides emergency financial assistance for those who reside within the counties boundaries, including cities such as Cape Coral. When applying, applicants requesting emergency assistance should bring a copy of their current utility bill, a photo ID, drug prescription, proof of income or other documents that relate to the nature of their crisis request for assistance. Or also find resources such as free diabetes supplies - insulin from partner churches.

Thrift stores and furniture banks are open to the general public. The sites will accept donations of clothing, furniture, holiday goods and other household items in good condition. The items will then be resold to the general public at lower prices and the money collected is used to pay for financial assistance, food, rental help and more. Please call the stores directly to arrange for pickup, or stop by at a local thrift store to shop. The St. Vincent de Paul Society operates a main thrift store in the Fort Myers Florida area. It is located at 2023 Del Prado Blvd, Cape Coral, and can be reached at 239-573-0217.

As indicated, donations and contributions are appreciated. The St Vincent de Paul Society, both in Florida and nationwide, is a charitable organization. Donors may deduct their financial or value of goods contributed under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code, so you gain a tax benefit.

As always indicated, resources are limited. You will need to call for an appointment and to see what is available. The Society is open a few days per week and you can receive free food and/or emergency assistance for basic needs, food, and other expenses.

The SVDP Society may also have other free items offered. They also hold workshops, give classes, and arrange other social services for the Lee County community. As examples of these programs, there may be information on saving money on home cooked meals, how to use coupons, budgeting workshops, and even more details on applying for Medicare.
