Erie County Ohio assistance programs.

Rent payment assistance programs

Volunteers of America Erie County - Sandusky Ohio - (419) 626-6505. The agency runs the federal government funded Homeless Prevention/Housing Placement. The agency provides assistance with paying security deposits, provides funds for emergency rent and mortgage payments to prevent evictions as well as foreclosure of homes in Erie County. The goal of the program is to allow the family to remain in permanent housing and become self sufficient over the long term.

Financial assistance with paying for emergency needs

Erie County Veterans Service Commission ((888) 399-6065) provides veterans with financial assistance with bills, expenses and emergency needs that veterans may have. Get free food, utilities and heating help, rent payments, and mortgage help. Click here for more military and veteran programs.

Erie-Huron Counties Community Action Commission, Inc. This local non-profit provides the low income, working poor, and unemployed with short term grants, and longer term self-sufficiency programs.

Social Services Program - Aid is available through offices in Sandusky Ohio and other area. Clients who are to be determined to be qualified for help may receive financial assistance with paying for emergency needs of food, rent assistance, heating and utilities or shelter. This financial assistance may be provided directly by us or through a referral to another non-profit agency or charity. Staff on site will work closely with clients to help obtain employment or educational opportunities for the low income and participants.

Home energy bill program, known as HEAP, provides low income, the unemployed and disabled with heating bill assistance during the winter months to income eligible households. Users of heating oil, natural gas, electricity, wood, oil, coal, propane, and other bulk heating fuels may receive assistance. Emergency HEAP assists with utility shut-offs to ensure a family does not lose heat during the winter.

 

 

 

Summer Cooling Bill Assistance Program - This service provides assistance with paying electric and air conditioning bills during the summer months.

Basic needs, limited financial aid and household goods are available from local non-profits, churches, and charities. Organizations run free clothing closets for the low income. More moderate income families can turn to a thrift store. A wide variety of goods are offered ranging from free clothes, Christmas gifts, to winter coats and more. Continue.

Erie County area Salvation Army resources - Short term emergency assistance may be offered for expenses such as rent, utilities, and food. However the focus of the Salvation Army case management is always on self-sufficiency and helping residents gain stability. Food pantries and household goods in Erie County

Lighthouse Baptist Church ((419) 621-8293) runs a food pantry for individuals and families.

Volunteers of America Erie County - Runs a free Food Pantry and also a so called Serenity Food Pantry. Stop by to pick up food and when available personal items. In addition, household items are provided for families and individuals in need of aid. Dial (419) 626-6505.

Care and Share, Inc. of Erie County - Stop by to get food, appliances, clothing and shoes, furniture, household goods, bedding, baby supplies, linens distributed to those who need help. (419) 624-1411.

Families have several other distribution centers to choose from. There are emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, and clothing closets for Christmas toys or school supplies. Work with a counselor to combine unsecured debt (such as credit cards and foreclosures) to enter into debt programs.
