Assistance programs for Dunklin, Mississippi, and New Madrid.

Delta Area Economic Opportunity Corporation - This is the local Community Action agency that provides a variety of assistance programs, both financial and non. For example, career counseling and job readiness are administered, along with job finding services. Health care services are offered, such as medicare/medicaid information. The main goal of DAEOC is to help people gain stability and long term self-sufficiency, so to make that happen the client will be partnered with case managers and social workers as needed.

Financial assistance can help pay utility bills, rent, property tax refund assistance, tax preparation assistance (during tax season) and poverty and life skills education. In addition, funds from the community action can be used to provide groceries and free food, assistance with rent or mortgage assistance and utility bill assistance. Much of this comes from government grants, so what is available will change from year to year and it has many restrictions.

In addition, they are the local provider of the Head Start program that is offered for children. The agency offers many other services in Dunklin, New Madrid and other counties. Funding is limited, so apply early. Call (573) 888-9230, or learn more.

Dunklin County Caring Council (phone number (573) 717-1158) is based in Kennett Missouri is an assistance program that offers funds and grants. The money can be used to acquire food, can help pay rent or mortgage assistance. Also get help with utility bills or heating assistance.

New Madrid County Human Resources Council, which can be reached at (573) 748-2778, can offer heating and utility bill payment assistance to the working poor and low income families who are in a crisis and who are in danger of having their utilities shut off, or have a shut off notice already in hand.

Delmo Housing Corporation offers a commodity supplemental food program, and the program (CSFP for short) works to improve the health and nutrition of low-income families with young children, and elderly people in the region. Call (573) 688-2565

 

 

 

 

Southeast Missouri Health - This is a local community clinic for the region. The location is a consumer-based nonprofit, and they run a wide variety of outpatient facilities that provide low income and uninsured people in the area with free or low cost basic health and dental care. Specifically, some of the services include immunizations, physical examinations, family planning, dental cleanings, nutrition assistance and diagnosis and treatment of common ailments for low income people, people who are homeless or uninsured/underinsured or other medically underserved populations in rural areas.
