There are several agencies that focus on offering emergency or long term rental and housing assistance in the region. Funds are limited and the number of requests received are very high, so only a small number of people may qualify. In some cases a renter may get direct cash assistance or grants to pay their rent or housing expense, and some individuals may receive counseling or referrals to government programs or other local or state non-profit organizations.

Greater Dayton Premier Management runs the section 8 housing choice voucher program as well as affordable housing units. They will be rent subsidized homes, apartments, condos, and other units. University Dayton Law clinic - The students and lawyers can provide free legal aid for civil matters, including eviction prevention. The can assist with landlord / tenant mediation and disputes on rental payments. Call (937) 229-3817.

PRC Department address both eviction prevention and the cause, such as lack of employment. Prevention, retention, and contingency grants may be available for paying back rent, past due mortgages, or a security deposit. Miami Valley Housing Opportunities Inc. runs the PATH rehousing program. Those with a disability can get short term housing and referrals to permanent, low income apartments. Also, may have information for clients on security deposit or first months rent for the new home. (937) 263-4449

Volunteers of America help veterans only (and their families) as part of SSVF. Emergency rental assistance, legal aid, food, furniture, and more. Free housing counseling services, including financial literary, is combined with funds to pay rent or other bills. HCRP is a homeless prevention and rehousing program in Montgomery County. Federal grants help tenants with rent and housing needs. Aids Resource Center Ohio – Residents with HIV/AIDs can approach this organization for help. Emergency assistance can be provided for those who make appointments. The GDAA Rent Foundation is a small charity that will only help current residents of a community or leasing agency that are members of the GDAA. Funded through donations, the foundation is able to supply one month of rental assistance to one applicant a month. Montgomery County Veteran's Services – Veterans and their families can apply for emergency aid and support.  Services offered by the agency may include, but are not limited to financial assistance and grants to help with rent, utilities, housing, food, and much more. 627 Edwin C. Emergency Services include eviction help, money for back rent or moving costs, and short term shelter. Grants from ESG and other non-profits in Dayton – The working poor, homeless, and unemployed populations can apply seek referrals for emergency assistance. A number of services and resources are offered, both for housing needs and other everyday living expenses, such as back rent.
