Crawford County Community Action Agency
Crawford County residents can turn to help from the local community action agency. The agency that helps people of Crawford County is Venango County Office of Economic Opportunity. They can be reached at (814) 432-9767.
The assistance from the Community Services Block Grant and related services and resources that are aimed at low-income residents are provided in Crawford County.
Low to moderate income individuals and others who need help with paying bills and expenses should contact the Community Action Agency to determine eligibility requirements, service availability, and/or referrals to other local charities and service providers. Some of the programs and resources offered include:

Crawford County Assistance Office
The local government office can help people with obtaining cash assistance, provide information on and help people apply for the the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), help with child and day care, health care coverage, SelectPlan for Women and long-term living services, home heating bill and cooling bill assistance (LIHEAP), school meals, and information on free food.

Financial help, foreclosure and credit counseling
Center for Family Services Inc., which is located at 213 Center St., in Meadville Pennsylvania, offers financial and foreclosure counseling services for persons facing mortgage foreclosure. This is a housing counseling agency for people who are struggling with their mortgage, or assistance for people who are interested in purchasing a home.
The agency also has participated in anti-predatory lending work shops, and can help with subprime loans and mortgages. Anything it takes to support the Crawford County resident is done. Housing and debt counselors assisted dozens of families with credit repair and debt reduction, and they have also educated many others in household budgeting as well as financial planning. CFS offers other programs too. They include a food pantry, rent assistance grants, loans, and a clothing closet for work needs along with Best Foot Forward PA Workwear. The center also helps the low income either find a better job and/or get new work skills. Many other resources are available too. More on Center for Family Services assistance.
As many as 12 food pantries also feed the hungry. Most combine hot meals with a free box of groceries, and they also tend to have holiday meals too. Low income families and struggling households may get the following:
- -Free boxes of groceries.
- -Christmas, Thanksgiving, or Easter meals.
- -Many pantries have other goods, ranging from school supplies to diapers, baby formula, winter clothing, and much more.
