Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission - This is a HUD approved housing counseling agency. Among the services they offer include free foreclosure prevention advice and counseling for people who are facing a financial hardship. Homes on the Hill Community Development can be reached at 614-275-4663. They offer services to low to moderate income residents of the Columbus Ohio area. Services offered are free or at a reduced price, and everything is private and confidential. Housing counselors can explore with a homeowner all the options and solutions that are available to them. Some may be administered by the state of Ohio, some by the federal government, and others by national banks and lenders. Columbus Urban League - This location has a housing agency on site. Meet with a HUD approved counselor for some or all the following. Rental Housing Counseling, Mortgage Delinquency Assistance, and Foreclosure Prevention. Counselors will interact, mediate and negotiate with your mortgage servicer, lenders and others (such as the assessor for property taxes) to help you avoid foreclosure. They may also be able to assist homeowners in developing an action plan to save their home. Columbus Housing Partnership - Free or low cost foreclosure prevention counseling is provided to those individuals and families in Franklin County who have fallen behind with their mortgage payments. The goal of this non-profit is to provide the information resources and tools necessary to help homeowners maintain home ownership by identifying the cause of default or delinquency, and to help them resolve it and get back on track. Counselors will discuss intervention strategies, review the clients budgeting skills, and direct them towards assistance programs. 614-221-8889

Apprisen is the local branch of Consumer Credit Counseling Service, which is a nationally based non-profit credit counseling agency. (Click here for other non-profit credit organizations.)   • Foreclosure prevention - At no cost to the clients, a HUD counselor from Apprisen CCCS can help homeowners deal with a housing hardship. The mortgage counselor can assess the families financial situation, rework budgets and even contact their bank and/or lenders, if necessary, to develop a plan to address the mortgage delinquency. Grants and mortgage assistance program - During 2011, CHP has provided almost $80,000 in mortgage assistance to almost 50 Franklin County Ohio households. In addition to the standard mortgage and housing counseling, other services include reverse mortgage counseling for seniors over 62.

They run a formal Mortgage Prevention, Retention, and Contingency program. It can provide qualified borrowers with one time financial assistance and grants for emergency situations.
