Colquitt County assistance programs.

Get help with bills and expenses

The Southwest Georgia Community Action Agency provides aid by helping to administer the needs of the people who are struggling in the community, and they have programs that can help citizens attain and maintain self-sufficiency. They are located at 109 11th Street SW Moultrie, Georgia, and the contact number is 229-985-3610.

They offer several programs that families can turn to to get assistance with paying their bills, including crisis intervention, housing and energy, transportation, and more.

Crisis Intervention : This provides assistance in the payment of utility and cooling bills, money that can be used for the purchase of food, and offer grants and legal advice to prevent an eviction. Funding for crisis intervention is provided primarily through CSBG, local sources, FEMA, and the United Way.

Energy bills and housing : The various energy and housing programs are designed to provide residents with cash grants that can be used for utility bills, conserve energy and in general lessen the hardships of high home fuel/utility costs. They reduce energy bill costs by installing free weatherization measures such as weather-stripping, insulation, caulking, sealing, skirting, and other minor home repairs and updates as needed and permitted by funding sources. In addition, other grant and low/no-interest loan programs are designed to repair deteriorating housing conditions and keep homes safe.

They also offer the federal government funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), as well as the Emergency Energy Assistance Program (EEAP).

Transportation : Services offered range from congregate and home-delivered meals to transportation to and from work, minor car repairs, and transportation to after-school youth programs.

Health care - The community action agency can refer low income as well as people with no or limited health insurance to community clinics in the region. The clinics and health care centers operate across Moultrie as well as Colquitt County. Find a listing of Georgia community clinics.

Many other programs are run by SWGACAC - Southwest Georgia Community Action Council. If a Colquitt County family needs a grant for paying energy bills or rent, or maybe they need food or applications to public aid, then call the non-profit. They can also help with employment needs and job training, among other services. Learn more.
